I was sitting under a tree by a lake today when I noticed this shadow on a leaf above me.

There are 120,000 species of flies, ranging in size from 1/20th of an inch to 3 inches

After studying 300,000 flies, researchers Dr Yao and Dr Yuan of China concluded that your average house fly carries 2 million bacteria on its body

House flies' feet are 10 million times more sensitive to the taste of sugar than the human tongue

House flies walk upside down using glue-oozing toe pads

To land upside down on the ceiling, flies grab it with their front legs and then somersault the rest of their body over

A fly beats its wings 200 times a second, 3 times faster than a hummingbird

The favourite colour of house flies is red, followed by orange, black, violet, green, blue, white and yellow

Despite years of trying, no researcher has ever been able to teach flies anything - fish learn, ants learn, snails learn, cockroaches learn, even worms learn … but never flies

Flies jump up and backwards when taking off, so if you swipe at them from behind they will generally jump straight into your palm

If a house fly spots a group of flies, he will join them. That's why granny's sticky fly paper worked so well - a few flies got stuck and soon all the others were rushing over to check out the crowd

Excellent!... I've been meaning to do one of these for a while... but this one is really good with all the leaf detail and the big fly small fly.

I'm jealous!

a cracker. Love the colour of the leaf.
No matter how good you've made this, it won't stop me squashing them through summer!

HEllo Hester,
this is excellent, wow even in the shadow you captured the fine details in the fly's wings. Very well composed, good placing of subject and great diagonals. Sharpness and colors are excellent.

Hello Karan,
It's a very interesting composition with more than unusual POV on this two flies - they look like David and Goliath :-)
I like very much the colours and excellent patterns on the leaf revealed by backlight.
Best greetings and TFS!

Hi Karen, great abstract shot. The light is fantastic here and the detail in the leaf is excellent. The fly shows through well with his wings translucent! Very good catch.

Thanks for your comments on my photo "Fly Away (22) " :o)

Hi Karan, amazing shadow of a fly, wonderful composition, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Karan,
This is actually rather a funny photo. You got big brother on the left and its smaller cousin on the right.
I am also amazed about the many details the shadow is showing of the two flies. You can even see the texture in the wings. The photo becomes even more beautiful by the color and texture of the leaf. The diagonal lines of the vains give the photo the extra touch. Really wonderful work where the macro lens gave you a lot of details.
I just need to fav this for is beauty and artlike look.

Hi Karan,
This is an excellent shadowed leaf silhouette the body of the fly is perfectly outline and make this picture really stand out. :)

Nice shot. The veins of the leaf look very beautiful.
