By now it must look like I am obsessed with voles. I assure you I am not..well just a little bit. This was a very quick grab shot. I was walking along when this fellow swam past me in the water. He rushed past dragging a reed. I grabbed the camera and managed a couple of quick shots before he vanished out of sight.

Water voles were immortalised as "Ratty" in Kenneth Grahame's classic children's book Wind in the Willows.

At the time the book was published almost a century ago in 1908, water voles could be seen along many of the country's rivers.

But since then, their numbers have declined by 90% nationally

Nice Capture Karen, some nice details of a small mammal that is still becoming rarer by the day.

I think you are obsessed as I am with Roe Deer Karan, but hey ho what a great obsession. Another perfectly timed shot and action as well, love the way you can nearly get the detail under the water as well.
Super timed shot, well worthy.

Hello Karan

These guys are like miniature muskrats.I really like your water vole series. They must be difficult enough to photograph. This one is well focused with sharp detail and you have caught it busily transporting some materials to it's nest.Nicely composed with very good exposure.Nicely done.I would love to be able to shoot a vole that hasn't been dragged around by the cat first!.lol.TFS

Hi Karen, excellent timing on your part to capture this vole. The composition is very good, you've caught him working, and he sure looks natural. The colour and your detail is very good. I like how he's looking at you while he manipulates that grass.

Thanks, John

Hello Karan,
Poor thing..!

Hi Karan,
Wonderful shot and a splendid moment captured. I like the way it is dragging the reed and the intensity on its eyes. You have really done a marvellous series on these Voles and I assure you everyone of them allowed a peek at their behavioural tendencies in their natural habitats. I for one enjoyed every bit of it. Excellent POV here and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Karan,

A fantastic shot!! You captured the action of this cute vole swimming while holding onto the reed. I love those little "hands". Wonderful colors and details - great bubbles in the water.

Hi Karan, an other lovely vole, splendid composition with great sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

This is your cute little friend again Karan! I like them :) It is a pity to read that their population declined so much.

This is a nice action shot with good details and great brilliance on the water; very cute. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Karan.
You have pictured a very nice and funny scene. I also like the title. Quality of the shot is superb. Reproduction of the water surface, animal and plant is outstanding. Great lighting and nice colours. Composition is precise. Bravo and my kind regards from far countryside.
Alexei.
