I went for a Sunday walk today in the local woods and spotted my Roe Deer buck peeking out at me from all the greenery. The mixture of rain and sunshine has made the area quite lush with thistles, dense ferns and masses of wild flowers. This is the same buck that I saw last time, he can easily be recognised by his deformed antler.

Roe Deer facts from the BBC:
Capreolus capreolus
Roe deer became extinct in most of England during the 18th century, but they were reintroduced in the 19th century. Before 1960 they were treated as vermin due to the damage they cause to the forestry industry.

Life span
Up to 10-12 years.

Body length: 95-135cm, Height (at shoulder): 63-67cm, Weight: 18-29kg.

Physical Description
These small deer have a white to buff patch on their rump, a black nose and 'moustache', and a white chin. Their coat varies from sandy to reddish-brown in the summer, to grey/ brown or even black in winter.

They moult in the spring, giving the coat a moth-eaten appearance. The antlers, which have no more than three points and are less than 25cm in length, grow in winter, and are shed in the autumn.

Hi Karan,
This one must be very good is playing hide and seek, but still you have captured him.
Very good focus and sharpness. Must not have been easy with all the green in front. Great to see that you can get so close to him. Nice colours and natural surrounding.

Hi Karan. As you say the weather has made eveything grow. I like the pose you have captured of the Deer looking out from behind the grass. Good detail and colours. well done TFS. good notes too.

Certainly a distinctive marking on the antler as you say. I wonder how it became that way? An almost mysterious way to portray the deer....as if it were part of the outside cover on a novel of some sort...Very attractive!

Hi Karan,

I love this shot of the buck peeking thru the leaves. He certainly is recognizable with the deformed antler. Wonderful colors and details of his ears, eye, antlers and nose. Very nicely composed.

and details, wonderful and curious glance on you,
TFS this great image

Hello Karan,
Nice capture, good sharpness and beautiful colors, lovely catchlight in his eye and nice details, i wish we could see more of his face.

Hi Karan,
Looks like you got yourself a friend in the woods. Its funny that both of you spotted eachother. I like the way he's almost invisable through the thick layer of fresh greens. And I am realy impressed that you got the focus so perfectly on his head. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been with the moving greens and a wild animal.
Its another super sharp image with a wonderful color and clarity.

Hi Karan
Wonderful shot with great focus and lovely color
