Firstly Merry Christmas to everyone and thanks to a great end to 2006

I attempted some landscape photos during the dense freezing fog on Thursday. What did surprise me was that due to the unusual weather conditions some of the pictures turned out more like oil paintings than photographs. This is one of those images.

I should mention that I did shoot some of these photos in Raw and then converted to .jpg. These were my first attempts and I'm not a PP expert so I wasn't really sure what I was doing :) They seemed to turn out OK. I didn't really do much to them except for a slight increase in contrast and saturation.

I have called this photo Constable's England as it reminds me of one of his paintings

John Constable was born June 11, 1776, in East Bergholt, Suffolk. Success eluded him. He sold only 20 paintings in his lifetime, and was never recognized in his homeland while he was alive.

Constable rejected the formal or "picturesque" rendering of nature found in the works of artists like Gainsborough. Instead, he tried to capture informally the effects of changing light and the patterns of clouds moving across the country sky. He loved the countryside, and his best work was of outdoor scenes in his native Suffolk and his London home in Hampstead.

He worked in the open air, though he he returned to his studio to finish his paintings. His larger scenes were sketched full-size in oil, and the sketch was then used as a model for the finished painting.

Hi Karan, I like it, wonderful photo with nice delicate colors, great reflections, interesting note, Buon Natale
Ciao Silvio:)

Hello Karan, really if it seems a painting, a precious photo, with very smooth colors. Greetings and Merry Christmas.

Hello Karan,
This looks indeed like a painting. I don't know this artist you are talking about but he must be great! I like this POV, exposure, composition and mood very much. I know a lady who is waiting for Christmas a long time ago as she already knows what her gift will be ;) It is coming Karan, very, very soon, do not despairs ;) Have a great time with your loved ones.
PS, the RAW conversion looks good to me even if I'm not an expert. Tell me, when will you have your gift? On the 24th ot 25th of December? lol, I feel like a kid too and I think that I know what I'll have to for Christmas not a lens but something else... I’ll get back to you when I’ll be 100% sure ;)

This is a very stunning image, and it does look most like a paintng. I have never heard your story either but it sounds so romantic. I'd would have loved to seen some of the paintings.
Merry Christmas

Hi Karan.
Your first PP experience are great as well as your taste and skillfulness. Excellent view. Amazing range of "sharpness – blurriness" and foggy. Nice and delicate colour tones, beautiful reproduction of the water, surrounded by dense and wonderful vegetation. Extra class art work. Bravo.

Hi Karan, Happy Christmas to you too. I suppose the shot does look a little like an oil painting. I think there is a little too much here in the foreground and in that respect it doens't really work for me. You are brave though as it hasn't been the best of weather for photography!

Well done.

Hello Karan,
excellent composition with a beautiful POV and great scenery. A lovely mood you captured here, the fog and the colors are quite calming.
Have a great Christmas!

Hello Karan,
The atmosphere is amazing!
You make very well use of the present light here, and the composition is classical and well working...
Lovely muted colours, beautiful details and a fine feeling of depth!

You made the most of this weather situation Karen, very nice shot! I missed my opportunity with the fog as I was grounded in work with awkward shifts. Well done and a Happy new year to you..

Hello Karan! You really did accomplish a Constable type scene, and your description aptly describes what you have done! Excellent winter scene so untypically presented. Well done indeed! Linda
