This poor young lady was patiently waiting for a place to feed at the seeds I'd put out.
The Siskins are very pretty little birds, the smallest of the finch family. The males have a much brighter plumage and both both male and female are a delight to watch. They're very tolerent of each other as well as other breeds.

Again this shot was taken in heavy rain with a dark and grim sky above.
It has rained without pause for three days here in the mountains, but this morning, it has stopped, although it's still very over cast.

To cope with the lighting again I used an iso of 800, so please excuse the noise. I must master the art of remote flash!

Thanks for looking.

Hi Gary

A lovely shot even with the high iso. I like the streaks of rain the the vivid green BG. We do not get many siskins in this area - they are mainly found in your area?

Hi Gary,

the ISO isn't bad at all and certainly doesn't detract from the overall composition and pose of the beautiful looking Siskin. A great shot! I was wondering if i could ask for your opinion on something.
I am planning on exploring the Cairngorms by foot at the end of June, would you recomend Aviemore as a good base to do this? Any pearls of local wisdom gratefully recieved!

cheers,

Paul

Is it always raining overthere Gary?????? :)
Anyway, beautiful image with wonderful soft BG, color tones and light again.
Composition is great with the branch from lower left to top right leaving the bird on the lower left hand side in the frame.
Excellent work again. A real joy to look at.
Best regards, Harry

Update: Please don't use flash while shooting wildlife Gary. It's just not proper imho........Thanks.
It's very easy to get rid of the nois/grain in the BG without loosing detail in the bird, branch and leaf.
I did use Neat Image. Hope you like it.
Best wishes, Harry

Hi Gary.
When it comes to noise or miss a shot like this, I'll go for putting up with noise any day if it cannot be succesfully removed with a software programe. This is a beautiful image and exposed really well for the light you would have on a rainy day. Colour, detail, DOF, all great.

Hi Gary
Great shot clearly showing that rain is not a problem but can add something and that a good compo is better than a boring full frame.
Tom

The noise isn't bad at all really. With the rain drops and the tiny bit of noise in the bg it creates the feeling of heavy rain. Wonderfully composed and great detail.

Hello Gary,

Very interesting photo. I think this Siskin is very unsatisfied because it's raining :)
Superb quality, sharpness, POV. Noise isn't disturb.
TFS!

Hi Gary,
Nice effect with the rain trails running through the frame. They look like little comets to me..
Good detail, color, DOF, and exposure. Fitting title too :)
Howard

You have turned into a specialist in taking bird pictures in the rain, Gary :-).
Personally, I find the soft light on an overcast day much more attracive in your pictures. At ISO 800, the noise is negligible in this shot.
A well composed image with sharp focus, fine details and beautiful colours.
Thanks and take care.

Wonderful atmosphere in the rain and even catching a few drops. Your eye is as sharp as your mind. Your camera follows along as you give it orders! But I do really enjoy this change of pace wet bird. It reminds me of a strange but too long story of a Sanyassin tale..Perhaps some day I will tell it on one of my photos....

Hello Gary

I really like these rainy day shots. They have atmosphere.Just like real life ,not everyday can be bright blue skies,so these shots show very well the other times. The way you have captured the raindrops is wonderful.Very good DOF,and POV.The focus is sharp.Nicely done.

Hi Gary,

You came up with a beautiful picture even in the rain. The little lady looks so sad. Wonderful colors and details. I love the composition with the diagonal branches and the nice leaves and green bg.

Hi Gary

Great shot - I love it. The streaks of rain are great. Excellent light and great sharpness under such conditions. The noise isn't bad for that ISO. The compositions are great and the green BG just lovely. The soggy bird is rather sweet as well

Poor chap looks like he is in for a washing, nice shot, like the streaks of rain.

Very good shot Gary. Composition is pleasing and the flat lighting has kept the tones in control. Like that graduation in the greens as well. Best, Brat.

Hi Gary, this is a fine composition of this cute little Sisken. POV is great in a wonderful setting. Great exposure, colour and shaprness, set against a perfect DOF. I was not distracted by any noise.

Hi Gary,
this photo is a good one for me as it has helped me to identify one of these birds in my own collection.I'm glad that you did not use a flash as that would of been a disaster with too much reflection off of the rain drops spoiling the picture in an overexposed glare with little or no detail.Maybe you could of used your camera at f/5.6 and reduced the iso to 400 and got the same or better with less noise. The thing that is most difficult is trying to get a flash with rain or snow happening and anymore I do not bother as the results have not been good. You have very good colour, focus and details under poor conditions and this Sisken does look patient,Tfs. Bob

You captured a wonderful OOF background on this shot. It's color and light is the perfect backdrop for this little bird and the rain drops. I like the sweeping diagonal line. Perfect placement of the bird.
