Apologies for the absence (yet again, I had another 7 day holiday and then work was manic and I'm just catching up...) Anyhow I promised myself that I would post a picture today... so here it is.

There are times when you just know you have to stop and take that photo despite it being one of the most photoed mountains in Rannoch Moor/Glencoe area. Well this was one of them. I just had to stop...

When I originally stopped to photo this picture, there were actually no clouds. Gradually, as I walking to find the spot that I wanted, it started to cloud over. When I left, the light was lost and everything was dull.

There is not a lot that can be said about the mountain. It is such as well known one in the UK (Clach Leathad). This picture was taken from within easy access of the A82, though the land around being totally frozen was a real bonus, it meant that I was able to get all the way down to the loch shore.

Starting on the left there is Clach Leathad at 1099m, then there is Creise (1100m) and Meall a' Bhuiridh (1108m) which has the Glencoe ski lift on the otherside of it.

Well the picture was taken using a tripod, the 105mm B+W polarising filter and a 0.6nd soft edge graduated neutral denisty filter. Taken in RAW and then converted to JPEG, this is a full frame picture.

I think it is fairly obvious why I like this picture. It was also my first outing with the 10-22mm lens and the 105mm polarising filter.

Hi Emma and a warm welcome back!

Nice to see another splendid picture from you!
Congrats on your new lens and filter...they seem to produce an amazing quality in your hands :)
The composition here is outstanding and it balances the two main elements very well: the sky with it's terrific clouds and the water with some beautiful rocks emerging here and there. In between them - the fantastic mountains that watch over the entire area :) Superb!
I really like the wide-angle view here and also the great saturation the polarizer gave you.
The textures on the rocks from the FG are also magnificent and the excellent DOF gave you some exceptional details allover.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Emma.
What a wonderful picture skillfully taken with wide lens. The pictured scene is really amazing. I don't know where is sky and where is water. Terrific reflections. Transparency of the shot, clearness and beautifulness of colours, sharpness of the whole image are great. Superb art work. Bravo and my congratulations.

Hello Emma, this is a beautiful, prize winning shot! It is perfect in every way, balance and perspective is excellent. The colours are deep and vibrant and the reflections crystal clear. Having the rocks in the foreground really give it an organic and wild feel. The polarising filter did its job. Excellent composition.

Hi Emma,
You've eliminated the difference between water and sky. A mix of underwater and over air clouds makes a very beautiful and fantastic view. Light is also great too.

Hi Emma.
This wide picture is amazing.Yes,I agree with your title, but no only clouds. Also splendid composition with very good point of view and interesting foreground.I like beautiful contrasting colors and perfect reflection in water consistent with reality. Also very interesting remnants ices among stones in foreground.Thank you for sharing this fantastic landscape.
Best greetings Milos.

Hi Emma,
Don't those wide angled lenses do amazing things to clouds? The images become so dramatic. There is just so much movement drawing one into the scene. Sharpness and natural color are wonderful.

Evelynn : )

Both the lens and the filter have been used to great effect in this first outing with them, Emma.
Congratulations for acquiring such a versatile set and using it so well.
The picture is a beauty from every point of view.

Hello Emma,
Wonderful landscape - the clouds producing drama and the still water peace. Excellent DOF, sharpness and beautiful colours. I like the warm sunlight on the stones in the foreground and the cold feeling of the white line of ice. (I think the name "Clach" must originate from the Vikings. One of our favourite nature spots here is called Sondre Klack, a steep hill!)
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Thamks for your comments on my photo " A Lake Erie Afternonn (12) " ;O)

Hello Emma,
The rich colours are very eye-catching!
Strong foreground interest gives a great feeling of depth, and it is amazing to see a mountain lake this calm and providing for the fine reflection of the sky...
A view like this never gets boring!!

Hi Emma,
Your absence is about as simular as mine. Just too busy with work and other things that I have not enough enery left to sit behind a screen after I come back from work. You atleast visited a stunning place.

This is another wonderful photo of a stunning view. The combination of the morning frost, the clarity of the view and the wonderful sky topped by the wonderful landscape is just blows my mind. I really hope to see it with my own eyes, but then with summer colors. Wonderful work on the exposure and composition.

Great capture Emma, these magnificent clouds mirrored in the lake is certainly a big bonus. Its a incredibly splendid photo. Composition is excellent and exposure and clarity are fantastic. Very fine work, well done.

Wonderful reflection and beautiful colors in this dramatic landscape shot. Outstanding sharpness and DOF.

Hi Emma,

Simply wonderful shot. All the elements are there, composition, technique, lighting... the band of snowy ice really adds a certain something too.

And... I love photos like this that break the two thirds rule!! Great work.

Take it you're happy with your new lens!

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all ***

Loverly shot, not to say "cool" shot!
I also like the 50 50 here! Brave! Tfs, Jay

*** Joni Mitchell sings those lyrics...

Simply gorgeous photo. I've not the technical knowledge or skill to make a valid critique of this picture, so I will just say that it is a soul stirring image. Serene and beckoning. TFS, Mish

Hi Emma !
An extraordinary landscape! The place here is fantastic.
The polarizer you used gave some amazing reflexes of that beautiful sky. I also like the rocks from the FG and the water.

Very nice work!
TFS and best withes from Lodz,

Hello Emma,
What a beautiful scene you have captured here! The like shapes of the rocks in the fore and middle grounds is perfect, and the reflections are an added bonus to a serene and beautiful image. Excellent choice of depth and capture of light with the Gradual Density Filter.
Well done...
