Got this shot of the Male Mute Swan last eve in the local park. He is only about one or two years old as he has yet to find a mate.he was with ten others, this one was showing himself to the best so i think he will have a mate next year. the sun was setting and the warm glow was catching his feathers well.

Mute Swan. ( Cvgnus olor ) Length 150 cm .
Large distinctive water bird, the commonest swan in Britain. Adult has a pure white plumage, black legs, and a orange - red bill with a black knob at the base which is smaller in the female. Young cygnets are often seen accompanying their mother. They nest beside lakes or rivers made of reeds and have about 6 to 10 eggs which take about 60 days to hatch. The young cygnets are grey in colour and then turn to brown white and finally pure white.

Hi Nicholas,

Lovely shot of the Mute Swan, he really is striking a fine pose so I'm sure the ladies will be taking notice soon, nice detail on the feathers and I like the warm evening light reflecting on the water. at my local park there are 6 pairs on nests at the moment so loads of pics of Cygnets too come.

TFS Hilary :o)

Hi Nicholas. Nice photo of this Swan. Sharp and clear. Soon he is going to found a beatiful Female. Luis52.

Classic swan image. Exposure has been well held, but the main point of focus seems to be on the body, where the feathers "spike" at the wings, leaving the eye/beak area maybe just a little soft.
