[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The staff at Liberty's Centre had no idea that the Tawny Owls (Strix aluco) had successfully bred this year, as the adults never seemed to spend time inside their nesting box or doing anything "unusual" to indicate that they were raising young... until one day these guys appeared. This now causes a hiccup with the bureaucratic side of things as the owlets are too old to register with DEFRA (Dept of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) to get their captive bred leg rings and associated paperwork. The owlets may now require DNA testing to prove that these are captive bred rather then wild birds before the rings and papers will be issued.

At this time of year the Centre receives quite a few wild owls brought in by members of the public where they are found and assumed to be abandoned. More often then not the owlets have not been abandoned, and are being looked after by the parents that will be hiding near by watching their young. The advice they give is that if you find a wild owlet, leave it alone rather then "rescue it". The ones that they do get brought into them are kept well away from humans to prevent them getting imprinted on humans as their parents, and are later released back into the wild when they are ready.

Hi Miles. What two bundles of fun they look.great shot. sharp focus and fine detail. with good colour. the light in the eye looks good as well. Tfs. well done. Nick.. good note to.

very good notes i did'nt know about the red tape, our school found one on the ground one last year i told them to just leave it, but i gues because of its vulnerability with young children they got the rspc out. excelent photo:)

Ahhhh what little cuties. Wonderful capture Miles. I love the big pleading eyes of the one propped up and the pose of the other one slumped over but giving you the most evil stare! Wonderful details in the feathers, excellent sharpness, good framing and great POV. Excellent note as well

Hi Miles, a very interesting note. Poor babes, no official passport to life on earth! A wonderful shot, perfect exposure and focus, great pov and eye contact. I hope the parents are pleased with them despite bad timing and apparent attention to their rearing.
As always, a great composition that has a lot to say.

Hi Miles!
