Greylag Gosling
For Peter (Heyshamite)
This shot is for Peter who is a fine photographer and gives me excellent advice.

I took this on a very drab, dull and overcast day and I was looking for Jays. Peter gave me good advice on shooting is bad/low light. I did not get the shots of the Jays I wanted but came across a pair of Greylags with their 4 newly hatched young. They were all scrambling to go under Mother's wing and would occassionaly pop their heads out of the top of her wings. It was one of the sweetest things I have ever seen!

The ancestor of most domestic geese, the greylag is the largest and bulkiest of the wild geese native to the UK and Europe. In many parts of the UK it has been re-established by releasing birds in suitable areas, but the resulting flocks (often mixed with Canada geese) found around gravel pits, lakes and reservoirs all year round in southern Britain tend to be semi-tame and uninspiring. The native birds and wintering flocks found in Scotland retain the special appeal of truly wild geese.

Hi Debz

How cute is this little guy all snuggled up on his Mothers back, I really love the composition and pose as it draws all our focus to the Gosling but we can still see he is hitching a ride, really nice eye contact with nice sharp detail and fab colours.

Hello Deborah,
Oh my dear, this is so cute!
The little one popping up under mamas wing, no wonder he seems to be totally satisfied with life...
A lovely capture, pleasant framing and good details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Deborah,
What a very sweet moment you have captured. The way the chick pops her head up to take a peak at you is so cute. The details on the little one are perfect and so is the clarity in the eye. I am curious to if you have done any PP work to the photo. In some places it looks like you used an artistic filter. But I can't be sure.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Debbie,
Very cute shot, I think it is adorable with the baby tucked under wing, it's a very precious momment. :)

So cute Deb, like the soft mother's feathers contrasting well with the sharper chick. The confident secure look of the chick is great. Best, Brat.

Oh Deborah,
This is very cute. The young is sitting safely between mothers wings and still is curious enough to look what you are doing.
Great focus and colours.

Ooh
Una composición deliciosa, con el patito realmente nítido sobresaliendo de su refugio maternal de plumas... la expresión de entre cansancio y relax conferido por la seguridad de la madre es genial.

Very good!

Hi Deborah,
Many thanks for the remarks. I was only trying to help and look what a cracker you came up with. I would have been delighted to have taken this picture.
Very well done and you deserve it for going out in adverse conditions to try and get your pictures and you have some good ones. Keep it up,
Best wishes,
Peter

What a moment to capture... that is so "cute". Well taken shot.

This photo has great "cute" value. Outstanding focus and details. Perfect exposure. Colors are soft and pleasing. Detail on gosling feathers really show well.

Hi Deborah,
ah shucks what a sweet little portrait of this protected little gosling,a charmer! It is images like this one the make me like nature so very much. You have done very well with the poor lighting you refer too and the photo is not grainy even at iso 800,me I like to use iso 400 but you pulled off very good details and focus. What a charmer,Tfs. Bob

Hi Deborah,

This is so cute, off the scale. Technically there a no nits here. I like it very much. Very well done.

Witaj Deborah!
What sweet view! I had not such opportunity. At me in this season ( I have such place) there are no even small ducks. Eggs ate crow. Your picture has splendid colours and beautiful frame. It is sharp, to be visible eye and feather.

Hi Deborah,
A beautiful and difficult to capture shot. You have well managed to shoot it. The baby is cute. Thanks a lot for sharing.

HI Deb,
Great shot here. Cutness factor is extremely high! Soft light and a spot on exposure have the colors looking excellent. Nice sharp detail, and the shallow DOF has created a beautiful soft effect around the baby. Nice camera work!

Hi Deborah...
I see you have found the same thing I did. I am glad, because many thought I photoshop'ed the little on in the wings.

Debbie

I just adore baby photos and this one of yours is no exception. All I can add to all the other critique’s is Aah, or Ooh such cutie. Well done! Outstanding photo.
I do not know who Peter is, but he surely deserves this dedication. I appreciate it so much when somebody else is willing to share their experience and knowledge. That is why I have such a soft spot for certain members, who will go out of their way to “educate” me by means of their photography.
The last 2 days I critiqued 2 other “baby’s”. You can have a look at the following if you wish to.

Hi Debs,
Great capture and well spotted. Great detail especially in the little one's eye, good detail and well balanced colour throughout.

Good cute factor too makes it a very appealing image, the little one looks so comfortable and protected nestled between Mum's wings.

Nice work!
Cheers,
Adrian

Certainly a favourite, Debz.

Hi Debz

This one is running pretty high on the "Cuteness factor" for very obvious reasons. A brilliant example of animal "Tender love and care..."

An excellent moment you captured and shared with us. The late afternoon sun provided superb soft light for the shot although it must have given you a though time with the exposure settings. Having selected ISO800 and shifting down to f/5.6 aperture it at least gave you a fighting chance. I think by pushing the envelope somewhat you actually achieved wonderful results which were quite manageable with just a little bit of noise removal and selective sharpening. I love the great eye contact and detail attained on the little one.

Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. Thanks for the visits and kind comments to my feathered friends.
