NESTING EIDER DUCK.
I noticed on leaving the Neist Point Lighthouse a little Eider duck nesting on the cliff just under the lighthouse. I crawled on all fours so as not to unsettled it. The light was quite low especially on the foreground where the bird was so I took a series of four exposures, one metered for Sky and one for foreground. The other two were in-between.

During the winter eider ducks will spend much of the time at sea. From mid-May ducklings leave their island nest sites and start arriving at these sheltered places.

Hi Steve,
A pity we can't post buildings on TN. I find the WS version a perfect landscape photo that just has a building in the back. Anyway, a great idea to crop it this way and to make it a wildlife photo. It is just marvelous how you were able to locate such a beautiful spot with this duck. Composition and exposure are stunning. Great colors and clarity. The merge of the four exposures did wonders.

Niek

A very impressive bit of art Stephen, the colours are wonderful. I would love to get the full detail of this shot including the metadata.

Hi Stephen,
Great shot, I like the motion of the water against the cliffs, it creates an ageless feel to the cliffs. Well rounded photo,
regards
Matt.

hello Stephen,
At first I just was admiring these wild cliffs and the I discovered the eider duck. Just fantastic, the combination of the two. Majesty and fragility. I just hope you didn't risk too much to take this picture!
Thank's and best regards
Anne

Hi Stephen,
you are almost certainly one of the best landscape photographer on TN.
Excellant composition and POV.
Well done,
Joey

Annick

Stephen,

The landscape is excellent. The ducks are barely noticeable.

This is a great merger, Stephen. I would imagine it would be tricky considering the lens??? The workshop photo was a surprise...I didn't expect such a large structure. The colors and sharpness are really nice. It is kind of amazing that you were able to get so close to this eider.

Hi Steve,
Excellent work again..and an ID on the bird as well :)
I think I like the full frame best..Odd the building is not allowed, considering it lacks any prominence in the frame..really now ;) Very nice result with the multiple exposures..

Beautiful composition and an excellent depth of field. Great shot.

Great painting! Very different work with that duck! Love that all rocks with different amazing colours and also the wonderful dark blue tones on the sea.
Bravo!

Hi again,
This shot is great. The BG is so eyecatching that you don't really notive the duck straight away. I like the BG very much. It would make a lovely shot on it's own, but I think the duck (surprisingly for this bird ;-)) adds a lot to the picture. I just think it would have even more impact if the duck was in the left corner. Was it possible? I imagine in a place like this you are a little limited with chosing POVs :-)
Overall, I really like it!
WELL DONE!

What a beautiful gallery. You know how to saturate of colour the images and obtain very beautiful land and seascapes. This one is fantastic... just the right exposure and colours.... VERY good
