I went for a walk this morning on a moorland track on the hills above Holmfirth,West Yorkshire.
This a Gatekeeper butterfly which I captured feeding on Ragwort (a deadly plant to horses and cattle) which was growing in patches at the side of the track.

The Gatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus) is a common butterfly in England,Wales and Ireland but rare in Europe. The caterpillars feed on various grasses.
Wingspan 40 mm
First generation flight period July-September

That thingamegic on his nose, can you use it to brush of the clothes as you enter the gate? This ia a vert nice and clear picture, but I would have been nice to see some more space on the right for him to move into. Some of the open space on the left could be lost in cropping.

Nice shot, great detail and colour.

Nice work Andy, Fantastic detail and DoF. I did a workshop on it, not beacuse I thought it was bad but I wanted to see what is wat like with a tighter crop. Hope you like it.

A very beautiful Butterfly, excellent of colours Andy.

Good image very niceley sharp a little lacking in DOF and a bit tight for space on the right made worse by the large amount of space on the left, but otherwise nice one same goes for the short note too.
looks like its points tommorrrow Ive now caught up.

Nice and crispy picture Andy. Colours and dof are spot on as well as the light. But I would prefer the butterfly looking into the picture instead out of it - meaning more space in front than behind.
