Sorry guys, I haven't been very active this past week. I needed a little breather from sitting behind a PC all day.

The Lour burn starts at the foot of Ben Rinnes, where it is fed by the crystal-clear streams bubbling and bouncing down the great slopes of the mountain. Lour is Gaelic for "chattering burn", so called because in the summer when its level is low the water clattering over the stones on the riverbed sounds like voices. To the suspicious locals the voices were those of spirits.

The Lour glides across the valley floor, flanked by hedgerows and wild meadows. Then the river gathers speed as it enters a narrow wooded glen and falls sharply, cascading between boulders to form the spectacular Linn Falls. Its energy largely spent, the Lour burn then gently makes its way, via the Aberlour Distillery, to its watery junction with the mighty Spey.

I took this photo while on a day of exploring the back country of Aberlour. I was a bit lost and found a sign directing me back to the town. The path guided me along the small river where I took lots of time to find good compositions and get a good feeling of this beautiful piece of nature.

Here I was standing in the water on the ridge. It took a while before I was able to find the composition I wanted. When I found it, I positioned my tripod and leveled it. I used a 0.6 full ND grad filter to balance the exposure and to be able to slow down the shutter speed.

I did made some adjustments in contrast and color but only to create a photo as I remember it.

It seems that the shutter speed I used cannot be displayed correctly on TN. The actuall speed was 2.5 seconds. Even the extra photo information is incorrect.

What a wonderful scene you captured,
Perfect focusing,exposure and composition,
Fantastic colors and POV,

Good Luck

Hi Niek,
I found very appealing this composition, your quest into the river for it really deserved the effort.
I must talk in this case about your "wet POV" :-)
I like the different depths seen on the river, the "texture" added by the stones and the beautiful amber tones got on the water.
It seems it was almost no trace of wind, because the long s. speed produced a very sharp image plenty of good details on the foliage.
The dark frame really stands out the better of the scene.
My compliments and best regards,
JM

Hi Niek,
Unusual but so beautiful picture.
Colours are natural. Sharpness and great details. I like stones in the river. They are very clean.
Very nice composition,

Hi Niek,
Nice range of well saturated colours here, with an interesting variety of texture in the water. The strip of shallow stones has given you a very good lead in, which is well placed along the right hand third of the frame. Good job on the exposure too, just the right amount. Did you try it in portrait at all? Take it your 'Laarsen' came in handy here... ;o)
Cheers,
Paul

Good colours and well composed. Nice lighting.
Best wishes,
Achim

Niek, Nice landscape of the water flow and its sorroundings. Lovely image describing nature. Good shot. Ganesh

I like all the details throughout this shot, Niek. The rocks on the bottom shine through, and the leaves in the bg are really detailed. I think the ND did a great job of balancing the top and bottom. I often leave my polarizer on in this situation to reduce the reflection in the water. The blur from the long exposure on the right is interesting. I'm not sure it's necessary, but it does add some intellectual interest.

Niek,
This is a really beautiful image. I like the mixture of sharpness and blur in the water. The areas that show the rocks in perfect detail contrast so nicely with the flowing water. The water color reminds me a lot of the boreal forest streams of Alaska, filled with dark tanins. If you return to the spot, you might consider panning the camera down just a touch more. If find the tangle of branches and foliage in the background a touch distracting from what I see as the real subject: the rocks and water.

Hi Niek, great view of lovely river with great perspective and wonderful colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Niek.
Wow! This is right up my alley! A subject I can really relate to! Very beautiful. Great low POV and awesome colour and sharpness. I like the split line of reflected sky light and the shaddow allowing us to see the river bed. Very well done.
Best regards, Steve.

Bonjour Niek

Liliane

Hi Niek,
Fantastic,beautiful place,congratulation,
