Orange-tip (Anthocharis cardamines)

It was lovely warm sunny day yesterday and I was pleased to see the butterflies are back.
I saw several newly emerged Orange tips alongside the footpaths in the park but getting anywhere near was a difficult job!I had to kneel down in mud to get this one,he stayed long enough for a couple of shots only.I think it could be better but this was the best of them.
Hope you like it!

Only male orange-tip butterflies actually have orange tips to their forewings; females have black or greyish wing tips. In both sexes, the undersides of the hindwings have a dappled pattern of yellowish-black scales, which provides good camouflage when the butterfly is at rest amongst vegetation. The caterpillar reaches 3 cm in length, and is pale bluish- or greyish-green with white sides. The whole body is peppered with fine black spots.
Flight period: April-June
Larval Food Plants: Garlic Mustard, Hedge Mustard, Cuckoo flower, Charlock, Watercress & cruciferous plants
Family Group: Pieridae

Hi Andy, you are lucky! I was chasing this butterfly for hours on sunday but without success - they never sat down longer than 1/100 second :-) Superb light and colours, POV and details. Dandelion looks great with this Orange-tip.

What a wonderful butterfly Andy. I haven't seen it before. The colors are very special and intense. As a fan of the Orange soccer squad I can very much appreciate the color orange. :) Seriously, a very nice picture with great details. Well done & TFS!

Beautiful composition and details. Well done on this capture.

Hi Andy - good macro of a nice butterfly. Beautifull colors, good DOF and we can see many details. Well done !
I saw this butterfly only from far. :-(

Very nice shot Andy,
Wonderful colours, details and sharpness. Great composition, and the exposure is spot on.
Excellent capture, thanks for posting

Very nice Andy, looks like you had the same weather as us yesterday. I captured a couple of them but not as well as this one. a difficult one to get as it never settles for long. The whites look good which is always difficult. TFS

Very nice Andy.
Got a few shots of some of these myself the other day, not as good as this though, nicely exposed with good detail and perspective.

Wonderful colour and texture of the wings Andy, DOF is also accurate, very well done.

Ver nice composition, POV and DOF. The whites have been handled well. Great shot.

Personal assessment of the photo: excellent.
Very strong visual impact.
Aptness of the photo for the site: excellent.
Personal assessment of the note: complete.
Thank you Andy for this lovely butterfly.

Very good macro Andy!
But should be sharper on the butterfly.
Also a very good note.

This is very nice Andy. As you say in your note, "it always can be better" but that happens in every shot, I am afraid.
I have never seen one of this here, it looks a bit like the cabbage buttefly but it is totally different.
I like it very much, DOF is great, POV too according to the circumstances, and the exposure is on the spot.
Here spring is advanced, but it rained every weekend in the last 2 monts, and I only like to "trek" with rain when I go for my mushrooms in autumn :D

Great photo. I've chased one and I know how difficult they are to shoot! Well captured.

Hi Andy
A very nice b'fly and good details and exposure. We have a similar one, but red orange wings, not burnt orange like here. Must post one oneday for you to have a look at. Nice note too.

Great capture of a very elusive species. So far, I've only seen them flutter by at high speed, I've never been able to get a shot at any of these..
Good sharpness, DOF, POV and details. Nice handling of the whites.
