We went to the forest today and the sun was out for a change and it was quite warm for January . This little Robin seemed happy to pose for a while.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hi Nicholas!

This Robin is very beautiful and so well put on stage! The blurred background adds to the sharpness and the richness of the details and the colours are superb. Maybe the bird is a bit too centered, but this is very personal.

Kind regards

Buen enfoque para este "clásico" petirrojo. Belleza y limpieza en los colores con una buena luz y pose del ave.
Saludos Nicholas.

Nice closeup Nicholas,
Until I get my monitor calibrated, I'm kinda "hog tied" as they say.
But it looks detailed and well exposed with great DOF.
Well done,

I have been deluged by a once in a lifetime snow and ice and whatever storm. My power has been out and on all day..We have a foot and a half of snow in 15 hours. It is a mess...so this is a cc'ed message to folks whose pics I normaly critique. I will try to return tomorrow for proper...if not then this will be a unique critique..like a wind signature eh?

Hi Nicholas, beautiful beautiful beautiful picture of a superb little bird who's now becoming famous and well-known on this side of the Atlantic: except that we are despaired to see them in real life! Luckily you and some TN members are posting those remarkable pictures. This is an amazing fine portrait of this robin. It is lovely composed, I love the branch and the space around the bird, with the nice blurred background. Thank you!

Exceptional beautiful vivid colours in this photo. Sharpness, DOF, POV and composition are excellent.

This is very good color and lighting -- I like that you caught his beak partially open (singing?). Focus is perfect - so is his perch. Great job!!
