[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the first shot of an insect that I took this year!

I was walking through a man-made forest near the river and kept seeing these little clutches of Orange Ladybirds. I assume they're hibernating!
They were also the first insects I saw this year, save a mosquito and a few flies!

I was experimenting and found my Raynox DCR-250 worked quite well on the 18-55mm lens so this was taken with that.

And so starts the macro season....

Joey, Superb shot and nice color. Really interesting as I am seeing for the first time yellow in color and moving in group. Well done Ganesh

Hi Joe,
You've got excellent DOF and the four ladybugs butting heads is a unique composition. Although there's a slight trade-off in the color department (natural) when one has to use flash, the detail it brings here is great..
Well done!
Howard

Hi Joe,
well spotted (if you excuse the pun!). Fine detail and nicely framed..i'm curious as to what the strange jelly like substance is around their base...
Paul

You are way too cleaver Joey. I think you are getting much better at creative thinking! The image is unique and classy. It could serve as anything publsihed just because of its colours and patterns, but add in the natural info and beauty therein...is a complete image and novelette!:-()

A fine foursome composition comprising of four lovely ladybugs captured in great detail and fine coloration Joe, the rough bark of the tree in the BG contrasts nicely with the smooth bugs, good job my friend.

Hello Joe,
I found almost the same species of Ladybird some time back here, the same colour but 7 spots on each side - yours have 8!! I got a shot but it's not that good. This is splendid - great to see so many together and very well captured!
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hi Joe

"And so starts the macro season...." Yes...that does sound good :)
Nice to hear your Raynox works well with your new equipment :) Do they have the same thread?
Anyway, the result is wonderful and you indeed took advantage of the massive DOF you have now, in order to keep everything in such great focus.
The photo is lovely and the composition is unique and terrific!
Very good flash work, too, that also gave you a splendid color balance.
Overall: top job, mate!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Joe,

Very interesting this cluster of ladybug... I like very much the texture of the shell rendered by your camera... The use of the flash is well dosed for we don't see any illumination: very well done!

Hi Joey,
a stunning eye catcher, very well observed in a both perfectly describing and most decorative way. Excellent presentation of these tiny beetles. Glowing colours in the gentle light of winter sun.
Thank you! My best regards,
