[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,

Today I am posting a photograph that I took at the weekend in the glorious sunshine!

This is a shot of some cones which were hanging from a conifer in a lane close by our house. The tree was popular with a number of birds, as can be seen by their deposits!

Here is some information about cones from The Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine:

The hardened, dark brown cones are the females. These cones consist of a woody stalk surrounded by overlapping, stiff, shingle-like scales. Behind each scale is a bract, a small, flat modified leaf. Depending on the tree species, the bract may be hidden within the cone or extend well beyond each scale.

Thank you for stopping by.
I hope you found it useful.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph! :-)

Hi Beverly,

What fascinating notes to go with a beautiful picture. I was looking at some pine cones yesterday - the tree wasn't nearly as pretty as this one - and never gave a thought to male and female. This is a lovely picture with wonderful colors and excellent details. The composition is superb.

hello beverley,
nice capture, the colours are natural and the lighting is beautiful, the cones have been captured with good details,

Hello Beverley,
Sharp fine details have been captured in the cones!
The great early spring light renders attractive colours, and the cones contrasts nicely with sky and branches...
A well framed presentation!

Hi Bev, splendid focus and wonderful colors, excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Bev,
this a splendid composition, I like very much warm colours and lighting
very nice artistic shot,

Do you know if this is some sort of spruce? the cones are similar even if not and well pictured...it is too green to be anything I am familiar with but the needle size and cones are familiar!

This is fantastic in imaging..
Great results.

Hello Beverley
Nice, very nice these pine cones.
The clearness and the catch of sight are a beautiful success.
Thank you

Hi Beverley!

Superb lighting and a perfect dof, and the 'deposit' of birds as you mentioned it adds something really extra to the shot! This both ways assimetric framing is something I've never seen I think, I would add another two points for that if I could! TFS

Best regards,
