Bayram (Boreocypriensis) dedicated a posting to me yesterday. I have been impressed by his superb snake and lizard postings (I was going to dedicate one of mine to him but they are not as good) so this Whooper Swan, taken close to my home, is for him.

Whooper Swan: Large, white swan with black and yellow bill; broad, yellow patch covers at least half of theupper mandible. Black legs and feet. Feeds by dipping head and neck in water. Eats invertebrates and aquatic plants. Strong direct flight with deep and steady wing beats. Flies in V formation.

The global spread of H5N1, commonly known avian influenza or bird flu, reached the United Kingdom in April 2006 in the form of a dead Whooper Swan found in Scotland.

The yellow markings on the bill of the Whooper Swan are like human fingerprints; they are all different. Each individual bird can be recognized by their bill pattern.

The Whooper Swan is the national bird of Finland.

A group of swans has many collective nouns, including "a ballet of swans", "bevy of swans", "drift of swans", "regatta of swans", and a "school of swans."

Hello my dear friend James,
Thanks a lot for this superb portrait capture of this beautiful swan with a nice sharp view of the upperside showing the structure of beak. Great pose, POV and composition. Thank you very much for this pleasant dedication for me. I'm taking this in to my favorites!
Best wishes, my friend,

That's a straight on shot James! It could well be a living fountain of water in the middle of a city pond! Very nice colourings and details so delightfully clear...a very fine addition which also shows very much your adaptability to many a genre of imaging.

Hello James

This is just superb..I would love to see the full size image with the kit you have taken it with.

Best regards

Wow, it's about the most impressive shot I have seen here on TN. This swan popped out of my screen with beauty, clarity, droplets and the light, James, what have you done to get such great light! I think that the bill of the bird is the nicest part of the picture, because of the colour and the sharpness, it is so beautiful. My eyes love to see things he wouldn't normally be able to see. Your lens is fantastic with your eyes behind it, thank you!

Hi James,
Very good and unusual framing of the swan!
The droping water gives some dynamism to your photo!
Well done

The effects in this close-up image are stunning, James.
By that, I mean those water droplets on the bird's head and the water trickling off its bill.
It is sheer magic.
Thanks for sharing it and best regards.

Hi James,

A wonderful dedication to our friend Bayram. What an unusual picture of a Swan. The close-up of the face with that marvelous beak and the water pouring out of his mouth is fantastic. Beautiful colors, fine details and an excellent pov. The body makes a great background for the head.

Kind regards

Hello and regards from Finland ;-)

I love this photo as it is very sharp and I like the fact that it is strongly cropped, focusing to the head and the water running from its "nose". I also like the different shades of colors you have manages to bring up here!

Best regards from total beginner who can only tell whether she likes the photo and why... :-)

Stunning as a thumbnail even before I opened your photo and saw the drops of water on the head.

Love it! I love how you can see each bead of water on the swan.

An excellent piece of work with brilliant focus and nice POV
