I have not posted a Blackbird for a very long time . I dont seem to see as many as i used to. when i go up to the forest where i take most of my bird pictures i often only see the one. This is where I was able to take this Male on a slightly wind swept day last sunday but we had some sunshine .

Blackbird ( Turdus merula ) Length 25cm.
Familiar garden bird in much of Britain and Ireland. Can also be found in woodland, farmland and on moors. Mostly resident but North European birds add to numbers in winter. Male easily identified by Thrush like appearance and all black plumage, yellow eye ring and bill. Female and juvenile has brown speckled plumage. Harsh alarm calls often heard at dusk and if a prowling cat is nearby. Male is an excellent singer. Feeds on worms, insects, fruit and berries.

Hi Nick

Great POV with very good detail and colours. The DOF is excellent too.

This one sticks out from the background well..and it truly looks the natural colour. This is a problem I have with imaging the blackbird...I cannot seem to grasp the slight differences and i end up with more of a duotone than a greyscale so to speak..Nicely captured.

Hi Nick,
Perfect shot of this beatiful Blackbird (all black animals is my favourite, as well white ones). Great details, nice composition and lighting my friend. TFS.

Hello Nick
This is a fine picture of the male blackbird..all is brilliant as ever photgraphically...Its interesting you say that you dont see many blackbirds whereas you used to..I didnt used to see many in my area but they are everywhere now.

Como siempre preciosa toma Nicholas. Esa lente de Canon te funciona muy bien y en algunas de tus tomas se refleja ello en la textura del plumaje. Realismo en la escena.

hello Nicholas
wonderful capture of this beautiful blackbird with its bonus
composition, POV, BG, lighting, colours, sharpness and details are great

Hallo Nicholas
Fantastic details all over of this black bird. A great accomplishment, with perfect focus, sharpness and point of view. The black feathers show up so well in the light. I just love the yellow circle around the eye, the pose and of course the open beak rounds this image of perfectly. A great shot on all counts. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards

Great! Finally a blackbird, where you can see the details. (We had to many recently that were not exactly crisp;))
Wonderful light as well! And great with the seed in it's bill!
Cheers, Klaus!

Hello Nick,

Last week you were telling me how difficult you found it to capture blackbirds, I'm so pleased that that was in the past! This is a fine example! The ruffling of his feathers gives him 'life'! You have shown good details of his feathers!
I do like the speckled b/g which makes a very lovely b/g for him.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Nick,

I love your Blackbird, which is much better than the one I posted a week or so ago. You've captured some lovely detail in the feathers and the eye. You've also captured him is an interesting pose. Nice shot.

Your aviary gallery is getting big and beautiful Nicholas! Second black bird that I see today, the other is Ivan's. Is this a Thrush too, I think so, it's the same latin name. We don't have them here but they seem to be of the same family of robins... but I really don't know. Great picture once again, Nicholas, I like the light you get on your pictures, it's always golden and bright, almost warm. Here we see the wind in the feathers, I really like it. Thank you!

Hi Nick,
great shot of this wind-blown Blackbird.
Immense detail in the feathers and great sharpness.
Superb DOF that blurs the BG nicely.
Excellent lighting and colours.
I think there's a bit too much space above the bird but otherwise the composition is great!
Well done,

p.s will e-mail you some dates tonight!

Glen, I have not seen this bird at all. It first appeared to be a Raven till I saw the color of the beaks and the eye ring. Very well taken.

Hi Nick

I love watching blackbirds. They remind me of mini-puffins when they have a beak stuffed full of worms. I have a female blackbird who eats the leftover hedgehog food.

Great POV and wonderful details. I love the ruffled feathers. Perfect DOF as ever
