I think going to give this little guy a name as he is so friendly and always up to getting his picture taken, well a few seeds as bribery helps too, he is easy to recognise as he had three distinctive red flecks on his breast.

Robins Song

The Robin is one of the few birds in the UK that sing all year round. This is due to the importance of holding winter territories. Only for a short period in late summer while they are moulting and inconspicuous do robins stop singing. Both sexes sing.

As with the Nightingale, the song is usually delivered from a concealed perch within a bush or a tree exposed perches are infrequent. Autumn and spring songs are distinctly different. The autumn song starts after the moult, from late summer onwards. It is more subdued and melancholy in its tone, while the spring song is powerful, confident and upbeat.

The spring song can start as early as mid-December, reaching full force in spring. Its purpose is two-fold: to defend a territory and to attract a mate. Therefore, spring song is far more powerful in males.

Robins are adapted to life in poor light and are often active in half-light when few other birds are about. They tend to be among the earliest birds to start the dawn chorus and one of the last to stop in the evening.

Street lights and floodlights can trigger singing in the middle of the night, and if roosting Robins are disturbed, they can burst into song even in complete darkness.

Hi Hilary. They get so tame when food is around. you have captured a fine well detail close up of your little friend. bright colours on such a wet Sunday. well done. TFS
Nick..

A happy Easter to you.

Though this is a very frequently seen bird here on TN, your image of it falls into outstanding category, Hilary.
Excellent POV, sharpness and colours. You have made the cluttered BG to banish into an unobstrusive backdrop.
Well done and TFS.

Hello Hilary,

I'm just a sucker for any robin! They have such charm and, as you say, character!
This is a very sharp and detailed shot.
The feathers, the features, the colours and that little twinkle in his eye, are all excellent. He is in a pretty b/g and nicely composed.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Hilary,
Attractive capture of an Easter Robin, fluffed up almost like a painted egg! I like the pose and low POV and it is sharp enough to make it stand out well from the busy but OOF natural BG.
Thanks for sharing this beauty and enjoy the rest of your Easter break,
Ivan

Hi, dear Hilary.
I cannot believe that your camera can produce high-end quality shots. I know you can make wonders but every camera have own limitations. It is true masterpiece. Amazing scene and terrific reproduction of all its features and details. Bravo and my congratulations.

I have to be honest and say that the Robin is my favourite bird.(I know we shouldnt have favourites!!)
You have caught this gorgeous one in a unique pose showing how the greys of thier plumage can run along the eyeline to the crown of the head.
Superbly sharp details and spot on colours.

Hi Hil,
we had a friendly Robin up at my Sister's Horse stables and we named him Rodney :-) He still potters about searching for seeds and whatnot among the hay we put out for the Horse :-)

This really is a superb image of this little Robin!
You've got right down to his level giving a more natural POV and the composition is splendid!
The colours are nice and vivid and that red breast is very eye-catching.
Sharp with a heap of detail and superb clarity.
Great DOF and focusing too.
Very well done!
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Hil,

This is a lovely shot of a Robin; amongst the best I've seen on TN. Stunning level of detail; lovely pose from the bird, and the pov is perfect (you must have been lying down for this one). Perfect posting for Easter.
