Hello,

Finally, after many, many years, there was a decent amount of snow fall in the New Forest on Sunday morning! Although it only stayed around for about 3 hours or so, there was enough of a dusting to transform the woods into a temporary winter (Spring??) wonderland. I got here at about 7.30 a.m, and had a good walk through the very powdery snow that clung to everything.
This particular pool lies deep in the woods. I had forgotten how Snow muffles sound so well, and the feel of it crunching underfoot. I know some of you have had ALOT of Snow this year and it is nothing special or new to you, but this was the amount we used to get around here every year when i was kid and it brought back a certain sense of nostalgia.
By the time i got back home to the coast, around 15 miles away, the sun was out and i was in a T Shirt watching the snow clouds dump their load over the sea. I love the Britsh Weather :o)

Apologies for not being around much the last few days (if anyone noticed of course!), i've been moving house and have no internet connection, which judging by the ineptitude of British Telecom is set to continue for a while yet, so i am confined to critiqing when possible during work hours.

shot in RAW, a touch of curves, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking...

Hi Paul
Great winter landscape. Fantasttic colors great POV. Colr photo but almost BW. Technical quality is as always great but what I like here the most is the mood. Fantastic shot

Hi Paul,
very beautiful shot. :)
The atmosphere differs a lot from the atmosphere of your other pics.
I like it as much as the others.
The colors, almost monochrome, are great. Technically everything is fine.
Very good POV.

Hi Paul, this is a beautiful shot, it really is a winter wonderland! Snow in London did not settle. You have a lovely pov here with the relections in the water. Very well composed with a great perspective. The scene is moody with perfect exposrue on the whites, all nice and sharp. Great work.

Hi Paul,
the mood you captured in this shot is great, I simply love it. The colours are nearly monochrome (as said by Krzysztof and Tatjana) and underline the atmosphere so well. Thanks for sharing.
BTW: The German Telecom isn't any better! :-)
With best regards, Britta

Hi Paul!

You easily can imagine that I love it! The atmosphere is superb, and I'm happy you could benefit from it. I like the perspective very much, although I have the subjective feeling of a tiny leaning to the right; maybe it's just the effect of the wide angle. The little coloured touch on the grass makes this picture definitely an outstanding one.

Congratulations, it's superb!

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Paul,
Yes, I saw in the news that you had a sudden mini-winter, what we in Sweden call 'spring-winter'.
I like the grey tones and am pleased that you didn't switch to B&W as the hint of colour is an asset. The sun shining through the clouds and its reflection are a superb ingredient in this fine composition.
Nice to see and thanks for sharing it,
Ivan

Hi Paul,
Just a quick visit from me. I hope you are doing fine and hope that your internet connection will be up and running soon.

The mood in this photo is most wonderful and it surprises me that you had snow that late in the season. I was running around in shorts that day and would not expect to have snow a few hundred kilometers away. I like your composition a lot, with the old log in the FG and the slightly transparant water surface. The details and colors are wonderful.
TFS,
Niek

P.S. it will be a while before I am active again. A burglar stole my camera, laptop and lens last week.

Fantastic picture!
I like composition and reflections and nice color too.

Hello Paul,
It is a very good compo. Moody image. I do like the 'colors'.
Beautiful!

Hi Paul

you saw the sun? we never did....

love the shot, it is really moody and almost B&W with just enough colour to pull it back if you follow me...

I do get the impression that the picture needs to be rotated from both the left and the right though, but I guess that is your 10mm... Anyhow, love the composition, sharpness, clarity and calmness and just wish there was something where I lived that worked with landscapes... there isn't really expect that one tree!

Hi Paul,
Interesting use of the wide angle lens in vertical position (if I'm not wrong) You managed to add depht to the photo under a grey-white sky. Beautiful sharp details of the frozen grasses in the foreground and nice reflections of the treees in the lake.
Well done and TFS

what a wonderful mood, very artistic composition,
fine framing of this interesting scenery

Paul,
I keep asking this, what in the wide world is RAW?Is it a format?Or does it imply that it was shot without any prep, or something like that?I've yet to get an answer:(
Why I want to know is, I mean just look at this shot!I'll run out of positive superlatives if I begin to describe how i feel about it!
Simply fanta-bulous!
Cheers!
Goldy

I know for sure it snowed that day...Having heard of the Stockers Lake TN convention. This is a fine winter landscape which I would not associate with Great Britain unless it came from one of the most rusted eyes in the country!:-)

Hello Paul,
I couldn't believe it when I heard there was snow in England while we had a lovely warm spring day here!! I must say though that I liked the English weather too as it never got as cold as here, nor was there a lot of snow!
How brilliant of you to seek up this beautiful place away from your home to get this fantastic shot!! The colours are wonderful and the water is just like a mirror. Excellent depth and sharp details too. Very well done!
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hello Paul,
Thank you for sharing this beautiful wonderland of snow with the best reflection from the sun!
good low pov with depth in good clarity, nice colour and details
well done and I loved this shot

Hi Paul, hurry up and get connected, I miss your pictures, but this one will have to do for a while!!! hahahaha!..it's superb actually, in all respects a fabulous winter scene...considering it's April..the reflections are amazingly clear, almost like a mirror...excellent composition. Hi Paul. Well i was on the M3 at the time i wish i had been in the forest too. but i had a great ime when i got there. hope the move went ok. This was well worth geting up for. and as you say the only snow for us this winter. i am glad you stayed with the colour and not BW it worked well . You managed to just get a glimps of the sun. A great compostion well done TFS.
Nick..

What a finely composed and executed take, again from your wide angle lens Paul, the reflections of both the snowy trees and the hazy sun compete nicely with the real "mcCoys" as the saying goes, thanks indeed for this heart warming winterscape my friend.

A beautiful shot - skillful composition and POV with wonderful colour and detail. Well observed and captured.

Absolutely superb shot Paul. Love everything about this one - right down to the reflected sun in the water. Top drawer, adding to my favourites.

Hey Paul,
Excellent shot ... looks as if it's black and white which it mostly is. Very dramatic image. The reflection hasn't lost a lot of light and is as almost as illuminated as the subject/s.

Kudos!!
Going to my favorites.

The light and tones are superb.
Very, very well composed with perfect FG.
Wonderful atmosphere.
Straight into my favourites.
I hope the move went well. I'm probably going to Stocker's this Sunday seeing as I couldn't make it last Sunday. It'd be great if you could come!

Hello paul, greta shot mate, almost as if out of a fantasy movie. All it needs in my proffessional opinion is a unicorn and possibly some dwarves.
seriosly though, very nicely done, excellent composition, the sun with its reflection in the water just makes this perfect.

Hi Paul,
Wow......what an outstanding shot and it was well worth the wait. Beautiful landscape presented with such skillful use of light and exposure levels. So pleasant to the eyes this winter scene. Excellent DOF and a well chosen POV to portray this charming place. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Paul
I dont know how you do it but you do..You get yourself in the right place at the right time..be it the right light..or in this case the only snow we saw all year..As for the picture..I really dont need to say to much!!..It speaks for itself and your undoubted skill..Just perfect mate...I hope you are settling into the new house ok.
All the best
Paul

Hi Paul

Well know...this is really unexpected :))
I mean i would have expected photos like this one in December or January from you...not April!!! I hope we don't have such surprises when i'll be there :))

Yet, i see you're glad to have had this VERY late snow and you definitely took great advantage of it in order to get such a lovely shot!
Excellent composition and feeling in this one with the look of the New Forest covered in white.
Very good exposure balance and superb reflection on the water here...overall a terrific photo, my friend!
I read that you are in the process of moving. How is that coming along? I hope all is well.

Bravo, TFS and take care, pal!

You finally made it, you moved close to the ocean on the beautiful shores you showed us the other day. And this is a fantastic shot Paul, beautiful colours and looking B&W, that's the beauty of winter. You wrote about the feeling of snow so well you're making me nostalgic even though I am in the sun, these days, sitting on a long chair and enjoying the sun, unable to walk on the backyard because there is still too much snow on the ground! In Montreal the snow has left but here,in the mountains, we are still drowned in it! This photo is stunning, you certainly have a great talent. Magnifique! Thank you!

hi Paul,
fantastic winter scene you've framed beautifully as always. well worth the long wait from the looks. great cold feel, and the dead still water really emphasizes the wintery feel, showing that it's too cold for anything to want to be out in it. nice work!

Hi Paul,
You've used the 10mm FL wisely here, nice results.
The overall effect with the light snowfall, reflection, and vertical comp is very pleasing. Great depth & detail, almost a B&W with just a hint of color..I like it :)

Hi Paul.
Simply great brilliant shot. A bit different manner considering your main gallery but so amazing. First of all it is POV and framing. They are fantastic as well as the beautifulness of the pictured scene. Transparency of the shot, pleasantness of lights and delicate at high range tones impress the imagination. Bravo and my congratulations on so extraordinary work..
Alexei.

Hi mate,

Stunning shot! Definitely worth the early (and no doubt cold) start - great composition and beautiful soft lighting. Lovely, really lovely.

ps an explanation for my recent absence from TN - 2.5 weeks til wedding (hope I'll be able to post some Bali honeymoon shots on here!), and have just found out I'm going to be a father.............! Going to be quite a year for me!

Cheers
Doug

Almost black and white! What an interesting and original presentation! And even if not so colourful as your earlier picture, it is still a very beautiful photo. I like a lot your professional style. Even "normal" things look great on your photos Paul!
TFS and I am waiting for another photo! :)

Paul,
seen on TN's frontpage today on a sunny day in late autumn:
that picture is standing out, giving thrilling sesations every time of the year.
Colours reduced to a minimum do look very precious, indeed.
Thank you. With best regards,
Peter
