This one is for Luciano (Lousat) for all his great macros and useful critiques :-)

This is a Hawthorn Shield Bug that I found while on a walk by the river Thames. I tried to get parallel with the head and carapace but it was not allowing me to... it kept facing the top of it's body away from me for some reason and if I moved it would do it again! :-)

I hope you like it!

Latin name: Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale

Size: Grows up to 17mms long.

Distribution: Common in southern England, but rarer further north.

Months seen: April to October.

Habitat: Commonly seen in hawthorn trees and hedgerows.

Food: The nymphs feed on hawthorn leaves. The adults feed on the leaves and fruit of the hawthorn.

Special features: If you pick one up you'll discover why they are sometimes called "stink bugs". They can release a strong smelling fluid which can stain your hands. This is designed to repel birds and other predators from eating them.

The body colours are a perfect match for those of the hawthorn, and they are very well camouflaged in the foliage.

Hello Paul,
Perfect sharp details in this very colourful photo. Excellent contrasting colours, POV and composition.

Fine details and great use of flash Joe..These bugs are very hard to get complete DOF, as seen here.
The greens & browns look very good on yellow, nice job on this :)

Hello Joe,
Excellent super macro to me and a real dedication to our friend Luciano!
you two are great macro specialist in this field!
no other words to say just "perfect" for this presentation
best regards

Joe, you are using your converter with your macro lens very deftly now. This image of a Shield Bug is extraordinarily sharp with every detail on the bug so very precise even our human eyes cannot see them that clearly.
The colours too on this shiny bug are truly beautiful.
The use of fill flash for this shot was a judicious choice.
Kudos -- to use Sumon's pet expression!
