[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here is a Wood Pigeon which I photographed way back in May.
It used to be a regular visitor to my garden but then I ran out of seed, forgot to buy some more and I haven't seen one in my garden since!
Recently I've filled three feeders full of seeds and put them in different places in the garden but not a single bird has fed from them yet :-(

On a brighter note, there is a new addition to the family (sort of!) :-)
My Mum found a Pigeon chick lying next to his dead sibling at the base of a tall tree. We think they must have fallen from the nest.
Well she took him home and then I took him to the vet to see if he was alright. After getting fed and patched up, the vet asked if we wanted to hand-rear him seeing as there was no chance the parents would accept him as their chick again, so we did! :-)
I can't say he's particularly cute with that huuge bill but he is very funny :-)
We have to feed him twice a day with this special pigeon food until he can eat seeds by himself which should be in about 2 weeks. Then when he's able to fly we have to let him practise flying around a bedroom first before letting him go in to the wild.
Pigeons don't really bond with humans so if we release him into a colony of other pigeons then he should settle there and not try to follow us home :-)

I hope you like the pic!

Man, I'm really teared now :-) I hate pigeons, probably as most dwellers of big city do. But, this one looks just great! Probably best portrait of pigeon I've ever seen. Very detailes, with fantastic colours. Send more of this kind and I'll start to like these... birds ;-)

Ho Joe,
lovely to hear that story, if only there more people in the world like you mate. Most people don't like pigeons and wouldn't have bothered...good on ya :o)
As for the shot, well it's typically Joey...excellent detail, superb DOF and well composed.

Very nice and sharp Joey...I know of others with dedication as you, taking animals to the vet..Here in the states if we do so, it will cost us tons of bucks...Is socialized medicine extended to animals in England or do you have to pay high bills? A good lesson here along with notes..

Hi Joe,

How nice that you have a new brother. That is so wonderful that your family is taking care of the little one. I'm sure you'll post shots of him. I want to see him flying around the bedroom. Wood pigeons may be common but are very beautiful. You captured the beauty perfectly in this closeup. The face is wonderful and the irridescent colors are beautiful.

Hi Joey,
Well... as many here voiced, pigeons perhaps because they 're abundantly seen are n't really the most favoured and liked bird especially for photographing.
But i think the sheer magic created by you makes this one shot very much loveable.
Amazing clarity and sharpness and excellent details in the eye, the beak etc.I love the supersmooth green BG that so well compliments the metallic green on the bird's neck.

Would love to add this to my Unforgettable theme.
TFS for sharing this beauty

Cheers
