This is my second posting of the Kingfisher . You dont often see them fishing from the ground , but this one caught a small fish just after this shot.

Kingfisher ( Alcedo atthis ) Length 16 - 17cm
A dazzlingly attractive bird but colours often appear muted when seen sitting in the shade. Has orange - red underparts and mainly blue upperparts. Electric blue back seen to best effect when bird is seen flying low over water. Often seen in overhead branches watching river for small fish. When opportunity arises it will plunge headlong into water, catching prey in bill which is swallowed whole head first and sometimes stunned by beating head of fish on a branch.
Nests in holes excavated in river bank. Widespread and fairly common on fish rich rivers , lake and flooded gravel pits , can be seen in much of Ireland and Britain, becoming scarce in the north of Scotland. In winter can be seen on sheltered rocky coast in cold weather.

What a very stunning and gloriously bright gem of the Kingfisher. Well captured, composed, and presented and a favorite bird of mine... love to watch them fish. :) TFS Nicholas.

Hello Nick,
This is great!
Not only because you captured a kingfisher with high technical quality to the image, the lightingand sharpness being superb, but also because you caught it from a great POV showing the resplendant back.
Futhermore as you say, we don't often see them perched on the ground and you took this opportunity from a great POV.
Well done Nick: this is a favourite!
TFS and have a good weekend: I hope you are feeling better now - I would if I took shot like this!
Ivan

Hi Nicholas!

It's cute, isn't it? And so well put on stage: the colours are superb, the details perfectly well represented. I have never seen one live, so it's a pleasure to look at it here on TN.

Wish you a nice week-end!

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Nick,

Good detail of the plumage of areas that are not normally seen, sharp with a good POV and nice highlight. Interesting that it could make a catch from this low level.

Hi Nick
Well done on getting a shot of this stunning bird in good light - it really shows off just how iridescent the feathers are. Lovely focus. TFS

Hello Nicholas,
second post of kingfisher wonderful. It looks very beautiful on beach. You captured it with a great POV, sharp details and good lighting. Nicely composed. Thanks for sharing, best wishes
Ahmet

There is a pre-technicolor appearance to this one...or perhaps I do mean Technicolor...not sure..but it looks like the colours from a 1950's movie...interesting...in video there is a format call Cine' which I have yet to try but I expect it hay do this same thing...and here it certainly adds to the attractiveness of the bird...
Bob

Hello Nick
This is just superb..You have made the most of the light today without a doubt.
The low pov combined with a great foreground and background make this a scene rather than just a Kingfisher picture.
Just Brilliant.
All the Best

Hi Nick,

This is even better than yesterday's. In fact it's magnificent. Usually pictures of Kingfishers show them in trees. I have never seen one with such wonderful details and brilliant colors - he sparkles. A beautiful setting and composition.

Hallo Nicholas,

What asharp image of this wonderfull bird! The strong light brings out the beauty of the plumage making the bird looking like a jewel. ou have chosen a good POV showing well the plumage of the bird. Taking the photo from soil level was a great idea.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Nick,
Another very good capture of Kingfisher. Nice pose and composition, sharp details, bright colours. BG is a bit wild and you could use either selective noise reduction or blur tool.

Hello Nicholas,
I just discover your Kingfisher-pictures. Great! This one is my preferance, because of the surrounding water and the reflections on it (the same colours as the bird) and also for the vivid attitude of the Kingfisher. You have been very lucky to make all these shots!
Thanks and best regards
Anne
