Hi Paul.
I am out of fungi and mushrooms at all. In our family nobody did not like to collect mushrooms. We also have not forests. However, shots of these subjects are great as well as yours. So pictorial scene and amazing quality of the image. Details are ultimate. Colours are fine too. Well done. Bravo.
Alexei.

Fascinating...in a way it looks like the fungus or lichen which we actually grew and then drank fluid from it...seriously..it was an old hippie fad here..ok now I went to find it in Wiki:\
kombucha
The culture contains a symbiosis of Acetobacter (acetic acid bacteria) and yeast, mostly Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Candida stellata, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, Torulaspora delbrueckii and Zygosaccharomyces bailii. The culture itself looks somewhat like a large pancake, and though often called a mushroom, or by the acronym SCOBY (for "Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast"), it is clinically known as a zoogleal mat.
Great shot none the less!

They look very much like common birds nest fungi with the covering membrane still in place, but I could be wrong. A well captured image though.
Regards
Terry.

Hi Paul,
I liked Bobs likening of it to the Kombucha culture.I used to drink that stuff too.
I think what you have here though is possibly Ascocoryne sarcoides which you can see in a post by Felipe (extramundi) Here
It seems to take a few forms depending on where it grows, but yours looks very much like it.
Its a really good shot of it by the way.
Perfect exposure,great colour and sharpness.
A great post!

Hi Paul
I see you've been out fungi-hunting, eh? Interesting...
Were there still some beautiful fall colors in the New Forest?
Anyway, this is a nice capture, mate!
I really like the texture of these fungi and the way that contrasts with the moss...it makes such an attractive thing to look at. And it really does look like jelly :))
Very beautiful colors and well controlled light, too (especially if you say it was so dark there).
Bravo and TFS

Hello Paul
I do not know anything about your subject, but I must say this is rather spectacular. Very interesting looking and certainly an eye-catcher. The contrast between the colour of the fungi and the colour of the green background is realy special. I like what I see.
Lightning and sharpness is a great A+.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Paul
I'll stick my neck out and say I'm pretty sure this is Beech Jellydisc (Neobulgaria pura). Nice capture despite the awful light we had this weekend. I like the mossy setting too.
Kind Regards
Vinny

Hello Paul,
This is a fungi that I've not come across yet! Checking it in our 'library' I'm sure Vinny's ID is correct. It's a very fine capture in good light and showing great details and nice colours. I like the surrounding mosses too!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hola Paul,
Bonita foto de esta especie de hongo que contrasta muy bien con el fondo verdosos del musgo, excelente nitidez, buenos detalles. La especie creo que se trata de la Neobulgaria pura. Saludos
José Ramón
