This is one more bird taken from my day in the woodland hide. I was lucky to see many different types of birds. Last year we had many Goldfinches in the garden at home but i have yet to see them this year.

Goldfinch ( Carduelis carduelis.) Length 12cm.
One of our most colourful birds and the only one with bright yellow wingbars and a white rump. Adults have red and white on face, black cap extending down the sides of their neck, buffish back and white underparts with buff flanks.
It is a common and widespread resident in Britain and Ireland except Northern Scotland.
Favours wasteground and meadows where their narrow pointed bill is used to feed on the seeds of Thistles and Teasels.
Usually seen in smaill flocks.

Hello Nick,
Another real beauty from you, this time in the form a of a fine portrait of a Goldfinch. The POV and pose are superb and the composition on the top of the Alder twig against a fine OOF natural BG simple and very effective.
Nice one Nick and thanks for delighting us with it!
Have a good week and I hope you can get about in your car soon despite the snow!

Nice capture Nicholas,
Excellent sharp and clear detail. The colours are fantastic. Well composed and nicely exposed. I wish I had such pretty visitors to my garden.
Thanks for posting, Best regards Siggi

Hi Nicholas,
Lograste una foto excelente en mi opinión, esa luz suave dada por lo que paree ser un día nublado es estupenda; también la nitidez y el magnífico colorido que tiene la imagen. Además contra un excelente y hermoso fondo casi uniforme. De 10!

Real beauty. I think this is one of your best! Gary

Hello Nick
Probably the best Goldfinch shot I have seen..Nope...It is the Best!!
I love his feet all crossed together as he gets a grip on the tiny perch.
All the Best

You keep getting better Sir Nick. If it were not for you name on it, I might not have known but I think that is because of the different nature of this one...no subdued bird here! This one clearly yells at me to stop and look!

Hi Nick,
Despite the dull weather conditions over there, you've managed very well to capture this goldfinch full of crisp details..
the colors are amazing..
TFS this image my friend...

Hi Nick,

The image is wonderfull with breath taking sharpness. Bird can be observed in very good details. Even finest feathers can be seen. Moreover colors rendering is very good. Colors are so intense being vivid and natural.

Thank you for sharing,

Hello Nick,
I'm so used to see them in captivity that I hardly can understand they also live in the wild.
Well done...
It's actually good you used a tripod. Through your tripod you're sometimes able to capture excellent photos with a shutter speed such as 1/80.
What kind of tripod do you have, Nick?
Well done

Hello Nicholas,
Excellent bird shot. Very good sharpness and beautiful colors.
TFS - Regards - Adil.

Hello Nocholas
Nice picture with good elements, this bird is very beautiful and colorful, the Goldfinch look like a clown:), the colors are natural and strong. The details are clean and sharp.

Hello Nick,
What a superb capture of this nice specie! I like the minimalist environment, great details and tones of colors a lot. Some were seen recently in the wild at Botanical Garden in Montreal. They must have done a long trip... I wouldn’t mind if a few individuals decided to visit my backyard. Thanks,

hi nicholas!

Hello Nicholas, when I started looking at pictures on TN, I've been amazed at all the various species looking about the same, yet seeing such a colourful Goldfinch amazes me still! Wow! And the background is just perfect, very neutral so the colours of the bird show even more, the beautiful saturated red and yellow, the very subtle tones of violet/red on the twigs, it is beautiful! Thank you,

Oh Nick, this is a fabulous close-up of the goldfinch. The different, and very striking, colours of its plummage are very well displayed.
I love the pose, with its head slightly tilted, and the very good composition with the bird perched on the top of the twig.

We have had many goldfinches in the garden since I started providing niger seeds, however, I can't get close enough to them to achieve a shot of this quality.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
