This is a caterpillar of the Pale Tussock Moth (Calliteara pudibunda).
A one generation a year moth, over wintering as a pupa in a loose silk cocoon either on the food plant or in the leaf litter.
On the wing in May & June the adults mate on the larval food plant , which could be any of a large range of plants from Oaks , birch, hazel , elm , hope vines and many more. The caterpillar can be seen between the end of june and the end of october. This one is munching its way through a Viburnum davidii in my garden, a bit of a tough mouthfull if you ask me.If you want a look at an adult have a look at this freshly emerged Adult ( Even Punks Grow Up )),
Adjustments,
not alot considering it was such a dull overcast day.
Shadows 45% & 40
Highlights 60% & 55%
unsharpe mask 130% X 2.2px X threshold 6
fade back in pinlight to 75%

What a creature, I thought you'd been to the salt water acquarium to get this ;-))
Very clean capture with focus spot on - which isn't always so easy with hairy fellows like these - good colours and DOF with bg nicely oof.

Woaaah! You spend way to much time prepping him for the photo Robert, and sorry to say you went a bit overboard. :)

This is a fascinating capture. You did very well with the DOF. The moth is pale, but this critter... front and centre of the Milan summer collection. :)

It's so amazing how outrageous nature can be! This cat is totally outrageous and stunningly beautiful at the same time. You have captured this punk rocker to perfection, Robert! It is what "we" here in the States would call a real "Wowser".

Congratulations Robert, and thanks for the alternate id of the Russula, I already had noticed the non serrated edge and had doubth about it.

Now that is just amazing Rob this one does not want to be eaten. Iv never seen the likes of that. I just had to search up on the web and from that comes a very ordinary moth equally amazing! Great capture BTW..

Woooow... Excellent shot Robert, did you paint the tail? it don't look like a real caterpillar, :P Clear clean shot, great colours, nice DOF. Well done, thumbs up!

Our neighbors once found a distant relative of this fellow (in the USA) and it looked like a creature from a distant planet. This is remarkably clear and sharp, though perhaps with a green cast to the picture?
