Erithacus rubecula (Redbreast, Robin) [in Turk. Kızılgerdan, Nar Bülbülü]

Hi friends, today a national bird of UK which I came across in Rye Mead Nature Conservation area (Hertfordshire). This territorial beauty is also one of my favorite birds in Turkey. It is almost full frame capture.

TFL and Cheers,

The Robin is undoubtedly one of Britain's most dearly loved birds. It is instantly recognisable due to the rusty-red breast; indeed, 'Robin redbreast' and simply 'redbreast' are well-known alternative names. The sexes are very similar, but juveniles lack the red breast and are mottled with browns and buffs. The robin is one of the few birds to sing throughout the winter; its melodious, liquid song is a further feature that has endeared this species to the public. A short 'tick' call is also produced.

It is widely distributed throughout much of Europe, reaching as far east as central Siberia, as well as parts of North Africa and Turkey. It occurs in a range of habitats, but typically requires the presence of both dense vegetation and open areas. It breeds in woodlands, gardens, forest edges, parks, and even city centres. Although the robin has been recorded feeding on a very wide range of food, the majority of the diet consists of invertebrates, soft fruit and seeds. As most of the food is taken from the ground, snowfall can cause huge numbers of deaths.

Robins are very territorial birds throughout the year; in winter both males and females defend their own territory, and males often hold the same territory throughout their lives. Territories are defended by means of singing from a prominent perch, and by aggressively driving intruders away. During the breeding season, a female is allowed into a male's territory; she makes the cup-shaped nest of dead leaves and moss with a lining of hair. The nest is often located in unusual places, such as in old teapots, jacket pockets, and on shelves in buildings, as well as in more 'natural' locations such as amongst ivy. After the end of March, between 4 and 6 white or faintly bluish, speckled eggs are laid, and incubated by the female for up to 15 days. After hatching the young are fed by the female on items of food brought to the nest by the male. Two broods are usually produced each year, although a pair may occasionally go on to rear a third. Not surprisingly, there is much folklore surrounding the robin, and it has featured in many poems and fables. Furthermore, in Britain the robin is closely associated with Christmas. The first postmen wore bright red waistcoats, and were popularly known as 'Robins'; this may explain not only why robins are often featured on Christmas cards, but also why they are frequently depicted holding a letter in the beak, delivering the mail.

Hi Bayram, you worked a lot in your english trip too as i can see. It's nice to see "europeans" species in your gallery ..ehehe...and this portait is beautiful,it's perfect to make a Christmas postcard i think....very well done, have a good night,Luciano

Merbaha Bayram,
Very cute capture of this English Robin, taken without sun, but very nice colours. Not easy with poor light. Very good use of the flash. He seems to look at you, a bit angry, a bit scary, because probably you disturb him while he was singing! İyi geceler,

Hello my friend Bayram

Ho! Ho! it looks beautiful, what a lovely capture!
I am happy now to see every day and their song is as beautiful as their plumage.
I'm not good at the photo taken: (
Your composition is lovely I congratulate you on this successful approach for our pleasure.
Silent Night:)))

eye-contact it is encore more beautiful, TFS

Hello my friend Bayram. You took great opportunity in capturing this beautiful bird while you were in the UK. Nice perch in fill frame exposing very good details and colors in the frame. Well presented in superb smooth bokeh.
Thanks for sharing and kind regards - Jusni

Beautiful shot Bayram! Welcome back! With a gentle touch of some Photoshop tools this image easily can become a fine masterpiece! Right now the softness is a bit too obvious, I think and the image looks like a painting more than a photograph! Lovely little bird, in awesome natural surroundings. Bravo, leaving the workshop open is a good idea!

Splendid photo of this nice Bird, I wish You happy time in England!

Hello Bayram,
Nice capture of this lovely English Robin. Excellent colours and very good clarity. Fantastic details and as usual a perfect focus.
Congratulation for this splendid capture and thanks for sharing!

Hallo Bayram
Robins are beautiful birds with delicate features and is one of those one do not get tired of looking at. Keeping that in mind, your Robin has something different to it and I cannot put my finger on what the difference is. Maybe it is the fact that it is so close that it is almost sitting on my desk, maybe it is because it reminds me of Christmas and that this would be an ideal picture for a Christmas card, I don't know. What I do know is that it is a stunning bird, set in a beautiful image which is altogether really praiseworthy.
Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Beautiful photo Bayram. The composition and the colours are fantastic.
Many thanks for your comments on my first photo and for my book. I am also from Paphos. My village is Panagia. In the future I will send you some photos of a new for Cyprus plant I found near your village (Kantou). Christodoulos.

Gerçekten çok güzel bir tür ve çok sevimli.
En güzel dileklerimle,

Hello Bayram very beautiful imagine. In my opinion, light detailes and sharpness perfect.Interesting and particular the subject. A nice picture. Regards, Paolo

Merhaba Hocam,
