A very underrated bird the Starling

Smaller than blackbirds, with a short tail, pointed head, triangular wings, starlings look black at a distance but when seen closer they are very glossy with a sheen of purples and greens.

Hello Jim,
Welcome to TN!
Yes the European Starling can be quite beautiful, both in summer and winter plumage.
This is a fine capture of one in winter plumage, taken from a great POV with excellent sharpness and natural colours.
As we are here to learn, I can suggest that your composition is too central and would be better if there were less space on the left of the bird and more in the direction it is looking. The viewer's attention is focused on the right of this image as it is now.
Otherwise this is worth full credit.
Thanks and regards,

Hallo Jim

Hallo Jim
Welcome to Trek Nature and I trust you to have a most enjoyable journey on the site.
Your intro image is indeed a spectacular one. You have captured this starling from a pleasant point of view showing the details and the colours of its lovely plumage beautifully. I was fortunate to capture one of these in a birdpark here in South Africa and could not get over the beauty of the bird, just I here in your image. I very much like the colour of your backdrop too. I think it is a super start. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Jim, and welcome to TN.
A wonderful first post and a real beauty at that!! I remember the first time I viewed a close up shot of a European Starling here on TN, I was amazed at all the gorgeous iridescent colors in it's plumage.
Your photo shows off it's beautiful (normally hidden) colors in fine detail and just the right exposure. I find it interesting that you obtained such clarity with an ISO of 3200. Your 60D is doing a great job for you. Well done!!

Hello Jim,
Welcome to TN.
Your first capture presents a well-known species with a very original position that highlights the beautiful plumage.
Great harmony of colors!
I regret that framing doesn't allow space at the right side.
Very good start, thanks for sharing.

照的很清晰 鳥很可愛
構圖也美麗 真是經典作品

Hello Jim.
Welcome to TN. Your debut post is brilliant capturing this bird in fine perch. Plumage details are vivid and sharpness of the subject is pristine. Well done!
Thanks and kind regards.

Welcome to TN, Jim!
Superb debut picture of a colourful Starling.
Very good focus with neutral background doing wonders in highlighting the subject.
Just a suggestion: if possible, leave more space in front of the subject than at its rear for better composition.
All the best!
