[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After spending the last couple of months unable to get out and about due to the weather and health I at last managed to have walk around my local area, which produced a few butterflies (many are missing this year due to the cold spring and winter) and this impressive Broad-Bodied Chaser.

It has a broad, flattened abdomen with wings that are dark brown at the base. The males abdomen is sky blue with small yellow spots on the side of the segments, in the immature males and females it's brown with very noticeable yellow spots on the side. It favours ponds and canals. It actively hawks for insects but also uses regular perches from which it hunts. Flies May-August. Common only in S England. Its squat nymph lives buried in the silt at the bottom on a pond.

Taken from about 20 metres, cropped 50% and adjusted wb.

Thanks for viewing
