Taken at Eagle Heights raptor centre. This bird was inside a hall with no fencing to get in the way. Light inside was fairly dim so flash was the order of the day. Luckily the ceiling is white in colour so I decided to mix bounced flash and natural light. The background is a wall painted blue and white to simulate sky. He started to reply calls to another bird in an aviary outside and I manages to fire of a couple of shots.

Hi Mark
No question - I can see its tonsils. I just wonder what it saw, looking so intently at you. Great eye contact.
This is a wonderful shot and although it is right centre I have no problem with it. It is a portrait and should be seen in that light. The colours are fantastic, the DOF gave loads of sharp detail, the BG - well, how blue is the sky and what is too blue? The sky is perfectly fine. The exposure was spot-on and handled the contrasting colours perfectly well.
Very good work and TFS.

Hi Mark,
looks every bit as good as you described it.
It was nice meeting you today.

Hi Mark,

"Scream" re-interpreted in the world of ornithology ? ;-)

Great visual impact, apart from the naturally eye-catching subject, the pose adds emotional drama to the shot. I agree with "loot" that the central position works well, and the eyes are positioned according to Rule of Thirds. Maybe a wee bit much on the saturation side. In any case, great post!

Hi Mark,
quintessential portrait.
Phantastic colours and details. Well chosen focus.
Soft parts of beak add to the very lively quality of motion and directness.
Can hear it screaming. Great shot!
Thanks and regards,

Big Smile.

Hello Mark, amazing shot!! we can see these tonsils!!! Sharpness and colors are perfect, great composition too. TFS, Didier.

Hi Mark,
A very cool shot! I love it! Superb exposure has given perfect colors. Detail is very sharp. Just the end of his beak falls out of focus. Very well done!

Perfect symmetry as the bird is looking straight at you. Lighting is excellent but the reflection of a window in the eye spoils it a little.

Hi Mark,
it's a unusual but very nice portrait of this magnificent eagle. The sharpness and exposure are spot on.
A bit tight cropped but I like it, it works here.
Very well done.

Privet Mark.
Beautiful bird, the remarkable moment, magnificent emotional portrait of an eagle. Bravo!!
Eagle, probably, is indignant - *You has paid to me money for photofilming? *:-)))

Hi Mark, I really like this face to face shot, it has great drama as well as being very good technically. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of that beak! Very nicely done :)

Wow, like it's taken in a studio, the light, the atmosphere, superb shot !
