From a different angle

Thumbs up for your persistence to get the shot while braving the pricking nettles and that being bare footed. You are correct in saying that this is a somewhat different angle than the usual for we do not see many shots of butterflies from the bottom view.
While you have expressed most of the nits or shortcomings of the photo and you probably know better than I how to rectify or overcome those issues I am not going to extend this critique with unnecessary verbal diarrhoea. Suffice to say it is a great effort and TFS.

The blown highlights are very good in this picture, they give something special to the picture.
For the composition, I think that you should take the camera a little bit to the left to balance the frame and take out the butterfly from the center.

Unusual pov! Eye-catching shot where the b'fly seems a predator!

Lovely shot, Emma.
I love the POV that makes this butterfly so well camoufladged. Beautiful colors, too. You did well, considering the not too friendly light.
Bravo and TFS

Nice to see a butterfly in a natural setting. It is difficult to get these diferent angles whilst in harsh light conditions. I would try taking it down a stop or two when it is so bright. You can always bring the colour back up in PS but it is very hard to rectify blown HL's. I use this method a lot, especially where there is a lot of white in a subject, like my puffin shots. Otherwise good work and TFS,

You get top marks for going to the lengths you did to get a shot! I like it, a great POV. Good details and I don't think the blown highlights are that bad, in fact they make quite a good feature highlighting the edges of the holly leaves like that. A nice shot and I admire your persistence :-)

I aprecciate your effort to take that shot so I won't complain about the burn outs, a little wider DOF would be very welcome though ;-)
I like the POV and framing, very nice colours too.

Great macro shot Emma. Great sharpness, details, clarity and nice DOF. Great colours and composition too. Thanks for sharing.
Good detail, colours and sharpness.
Good POV and composition. You're a brave girl going bare footed into the nettles.
Thanks for posting, enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I do like the POV you have here. Unique! Your fill flash helped balance out the stong back lighting. I would say you made a pretty good shot under some difficult conditions. Sometimes you have to do the best you can with what you have. You did well!
