[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I think this is a German Wasp (Vespula germanica). The shot was taken with a 2x teleconverter. Unfortunately the original was a bit too dark in the background so I've had to do a bit of work on the shadows to recover some contrast between the wasp and the background. Despite running through neatimage to reduce the noise considerably, the background still looks a little bit rough. I like the clarity in the face though.

Edit: Looks like I somehow missed noise reduction on this one (could have sworn I had done it!). This does not have noise reduction and neatimage improves it. I'll post the revised picture if I can figure out how!

Excellent macro with crisp sharpness of the wasp's head. Great POV and BG. The shot is very well composed. (In my macro shots I prefer aperture approximately 16-25. It allows to increase the DOF. But it is matter of taste. TFS and my best regards,

Hi Andrew, a tad noisy as you've noticed yourself but wow, it has impact! I love the short DOF, it really makes the face and antennae stand out. Perfect detail and composition, great BG. Very nicely done :)
