Bewick's swan
Cygnus columbianus
AKA: Tundra swan, Whistling swan,
The smallest swan in the UK, the Bewick’s arrives in Britain in mid-October after spending the breeding season in Siberia. It has more black on its bill than mute and whooper swans and is considerably smaller and more like a goose in shape. Increasingly threatened by loss of habitat and man’s activities, and with significant loss of numbers in the UK, it is on the Amber List.

Breeding
On the Russian tundra it likes the swampy, grassy areas with plenty of fresh water.
Wintering
Low-lying wet pastures, flooded grasslands, saltmarshes, lakes and reservoirs.
Found mainly in eastern England, around the Severn estuary and in Lancashire with concentrations at the Ouse and Nene Washes (Cambridgeshire), Martin Mere (Lancashire) and Slimbridge (Gloucestershire).
Photographed (as usual) at the Wetland and Wildfowl Trust (at which you will be pleased to know that I am now a member), in Arundel, Sussex.

Very good swan portrait with very good details, you are 'walking on the edge' with the exposure :), but you managed well.

Very sharp details & great colors. This is a very nice Swan portrait, but maybe you should have given her some breathingspace on the left? Well done anyway!

Ours the details of the photo are incredible! My congratulations the photo were wonderful!

Nice portrait Michael,
The exposure is just right. Nice sharp clean details and good colour.
Thanks for posting

Michael, I think you got the exposure just right..great details in the plumage & eye/beak..Like the POV/comp. including the upper neck & top of the head..I like it!

Excellent capture Michael the details in the whites is especially stunning...very well done.

Very good picture. Good whites handling and details. Sharp and crisp. I would have cropped half the space at the top though.

Michael, nice mug shot. Great composition, excellent sharpness, very cool pov. Good control of light too.

Very nice portrait of the swan Michael. Amazing detail. Good work

Hi Mick
A VERY good mugshot of this swan, good textures, colours and exposure!
A small nit - a bit mor space below and to the right, and a bit less on top, and see how the composition improves, as well as the visual impact.

Nice portrait! Perfect and unusual! Thank you!
