Definitely one of the most beautiful places on Isle of Skye - famous Old Man of Storr.

--------------------------

Some info from Wikipedia :

Elevation 719 m (2385 ft), Location Trotternish, Skye, Scotland

Translation Great man (Old Norse)

The Storr is a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west.

The Storr is prime example of the Trotternish landslip, the longest such feature in Great Britain.

The area in front of the cliffs of The Storr is known as The Sanctuary. This has a number of weirdly shaped rock pinnacles, the remains of ancient volcanic plugs. One of the most famous of these is known as The Old Man of Storr.

A well constructed path, used by many sightseers, leaves the A855 just north of Loch Leathan. It heads up through an area of forestry, with glimpses of the scenery beyond. After about 1.5 km the walker emerges from the trees, into a spectacular, almost lunar, landscape.

--------------------------

I've planned to get some shots from this location for a long, long time. My plan was to get some nice sunrise shots from the top. As I've never been to this place before I had gone to the top the day before - just to prepare myself for the next day, familiarise with the place, find some good spots etc.

As the sunrise was very early (about 4:40) I had to rush from the parking place about 3:00 am. It is quite a tiring climb - especially if you're carrying about 15 kg of equippment - so it took me about an hour to get to the top.

I took several photos - this one was taken a bit later - some time after the sunrise. At some point I noticed the Moon was visible on the sky and thought it would be a nice addition to the photo. I had to be really fast, not to spoil the image, as the Moon was moving quite fast.

I used one of my GND filters here - not sure which one, but I guess it was 0.6 SE. Very simple post-processing in Photoshop (Levels, frame, resize, usm).

I can still hear the silence and feel the wind on my face :)

Hope you'll like it.

Hi Piotr,
The view is amazing... Your POV and composition is great with lots of details and a good DOF. I liked the colors, the formation of clouds and the moon. Very well done.

Piotr this is stunning. All your efforts have been well worth the trouble.

Very impressive landscape, untouched by humans. The superb detail is clear front to back. I love where you have taken this from it gives a tremendous viewpoint and you have included all the key features of the place.

I like the moon as an additional aspect, but it is the sky that seems to stretch away into the distance that definitely makes this shot special. Without it it could be another landscape shot, but with it and the magical light at that time of day the photo is vastly improved making it dramatic and serene all at once.

Quite simply, outstanding work.

Simon

Cześć Piotr.
Co za niesamowite miejsce... Bardzo ładnie skadrowana fotka, klarowna, ostra i co za kolorki. Dobra robota.

Pozdrawiam - BratAni

Witam Piotrze!
Imponujace i piekne zdjecie! Kontrast, glebia ostrosci i nasycenia naprawde robia wrazenia.
Serdecznosci,
Radek

Hi Piotr,

briliant landscape shot, the rocks in the foreground, the Old Man and,i think, the Isle of Raasay in the distance??
Well worth the effort, i wish i'd got some shots of this when i was there. You lucky man.

Cheers,

Paul

Beautiful landscape Piotr.
The "moonstones" pointing at the moon itself, along with strata cumulus clouds, make it a remarkable capture.
Excellent composition and quality.
Very well done.

Très belle prise de vue et magnifique endroit.
Merci et félicitations.
Merci!

This hardly looks real Piotr. It was definitely worth the early rising and early climb. Everything about this is super from the composition to the exposure and sharpness. The clouds and moon were quite cooperative also in adding to the drama and interest of the subject. Nice work.

Ricardo

Simply beautiful, almost magic landscape Piotr with a dream point of view and excellent election of the framing for their publication.
The captured perspective is perceived full with colors well controlled, appropriate focus and great brightness that dramatize even more the effect of your very well used super wide angle.
Nice presentation, thank you for sharing.
A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires... Ricardo

Hi Piotr,
Another wonderful photo with a really interesting shaped peak. The sky in this photo is really beautiful especially with the moon being part of it. Great clarity and details.

What are your taking with you that you come to 15KG of grear to carry?

Piotr

You were really lucky with the clouds nicely lining up towards the horizon and the addition of the moon was a great bonus. Its a more unusual angle on the Old Man of Storr which makes for a pleasant change.

Nicely done
Emma

Czesc,
Milo popatrzec - przypomina mi sie moja podroz na Isle of Skye i jej niesamowite krajobrazy. Bardzo ladna szerokatna kompozycja - swietny efekt dynamicznego nieba (chmury) i wspaniale swiatlo. Szkocja to jest to! :-)

Hi Piotr and sorry for the delay

Thsi is a truely splendid photo!
I really like just about everything about it!
The FG is beautiful details and vividly colored.
The rock formation in the center is nothing far from amazing - resembling a very big and impressive croun (with the face toward the water).
The sky is also magnificent and and the effect on the coulds is great (byw...what shutter speed did you use?)
Anyway, all the details everywhere look fantastic, the colors and tones throughout the evtire frame are superb and the square composition works like a charm!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hi Piotr.
Amazing landscape. Great light and contrast, creating the textures and highlighting the shapes in these awesome rocks. Well done.
Regards, Steve.

Brilliant light, color, and cloud orchestration. I've added this to my favorites!

Hi Piotr!
Great shot! I really like the sky here, and those fantastic rock formations!
Very good exposure too - great job!

Torbjørn

The jagged, pointed rocks that reach for the sky contrast brilliantly with the wind-streaked clouds that form lines almost perpendicular to the rocks... throw in the moon, and you've got an amazing image! Wow... thanks for sharing, Piotr. -Kelly
