Simon,
I think that your hat is giving you a headache, lol! This is a very stunning picture of this bird that might be an American King Vulture (I think that Jose Miguel has one in his gallery) ??? Colors and details are amazing. You did great PP work and this look he is giving you is very special! I like its pose a lot. The frame is a little tight but it is very nice anyway :-) Thanks,
Claudine

Delightful caption to this very funny capture of an exotic looking bird. Simon.
It is the tilt of the head that does it.
It appears as if the bird is showing its tongue instead of the beak:-)!
Great image in terms of technical excellence too.
TFS.

Nice pose, nice colours, lighting is harsh causing the beak shadow, but has been well exposed. Only nit to pick at is the cut off toe nails, and maybe that hard line across the back. i wonder if it would have been possible to get a touch lower to lose that line and still keep the bird's interest, plus zooming out a tad to get the talons in.

I love this one, Simon,
The expression, and the look he is giving you, is just priceless.
Excellent sharpness and exposure. Beautiful colors on that head of his.
Very interesting POV showing his crop in front dead center.
Subject is beautifully well-isolated from the brilliant blue sky.
TFS. : )
Hope your training to be a teacher is going well.
It is very hard work... but incredibly rewarding.
Best wishes from one who has taught little ones for over 30 years. : )

Hi Simon
Nice sharp shot - great light and detail. Maybe the crop on the sides is a little close, but maybe you had no choice?
I have seen these in the wild twice - once in Venezuela and once in Peru - but not close. I had no idea there were any in London Zoo.

Hi Simon
Firstly: Get well soon! Hope it's nothing serios...
Now for the shot: (are you hearing the applause?) ;)
This is really fantastic! The pose this lovely and impressive vulture gave you is just brilliant and you seazed it 100%.
The tilted head is really extraordinary!
The details everywhere (head, beak, plumage) are outstanding and the colors came out superbly and very nicely saturated.
Also the framing works very nice and the simle composition is great - focusing all the attention on him.
You did very good in removing the cage behind him...this way it's a lot more beautiful, i'm sure, and it definitely has a more natuaral look.
One more thing: did you notice he has one of his toes lifted...just like those old imatient...well...teachers comes to mind, but not only, that are waiting for you to respond :))
Anyway, BRAVO!!! and TFS

Hi Simon,
Very good the pose captured here!
I like so much the expression on the bird, you really took good advantage of it to build this picture.
For the ID, this is a king vulture, you can see more info of it in my gallery.
You took the best of the bird with this vertical composition.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
Me best regards,
JM

Hello Simon,
Woooof! I've just finished writing a critique in Romanian and one in German and just realized I'm much more comfortable writing in English. Although they are my first two languages, it's a pain to write critiques in other languages than English.
At the beginning I thought that you framed this guy too tight! But, funny, considering the tilted head and the thick black frame, it looks to me like I am inside of a small box and the vulture is looking at me asking me what am I doing inside! The sky makes a great background and there are no distracting objects in the picture. The direct eye contact is visually engaging and makes this shot more interesting!
Technically speaking, this is a high quality picture with amazing details and well saturated colors! Exposure and contrast are also very good! Good job! Thank you!
With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

A good tip; When taking images at the zoo follow your animal image with a pic of their ID, that way you'll always have a record of what you've taken.
Lots of detail, and good vibrant colours. Not sure if the tight crop and frame work for me, just my (humble) opinion :o)
Thakns for posting.
