|Can anyone identify this bird spotted in my garden in Awali, Bahrain? I can't find it in any of my books. It is about the same size as a Bul-Bul but has a red flash under the tail and a small crest on the head.|

A nice photo of a Red-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer). The brown spot behind the eye is invisible. On the photo the head is very dark.
as peter said this is "red vented bulbul", the picture is good but looks like the camera has given exposure to the sky and not the bird in such scenarios use +1 EV.
