Phoenicopterus roseus Pallas, 1811.
Greater Flamingo

Phoenicopterus roseus (family Phoenicopteridae) is the largest species of flamingo averaging 110–150 cm (43–60 in) tall. It is also the most widespread species of the flamingo family. It is found in parts of Africa, southern Asia (coastal regions of Pakistan and India), and southern Europe (including Spain, Sardinia, Albania, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal, and the Camargue region of France).
According Wikipedia Phoenicopterus roseus is closely related to the American Flamingo and Chilean Flamingo, with which it has sometimes been considered conspecific, but that treatment is now widely seen (e.g., by the American and British Ornithologists' Union) as incorrect and based on a lack of evidence.
Most of the plumage of Phoenicopterus roseus is pinkish-white, but the wing coverts are red and the primary and secondary flight feathers are black. The immature plumage is white with darker shaft-streaks and dark – tipped wing-covers.

In Cyprus Phoenicopterus roseus is a common passage migrant and a common winter visitor. Up to 10000 flamingos winter mainly at the two salt-lakes of the island (Akrotiri and Larnaka).

Hello Christodoulos,
I have the impression that the flamingo has the longest feet in birds.
Regards
Lucja

Hello Chris,

Hope you are well. This is a wonderful snapshot brother. Seems like the bird is walking on land perhaps it is depth of field. The colours of Greater Flamingo are very lovely and the blurred background has made the bird more prominent. This one is a keeper. Thanks a lot for sharing a fine photo....take care....warmest regards/Abid

Hi Chris,

Very vivid colors and sharp representation of this flamengo. I also like the pov.

Hello Christodoulos,
A Beautiful composition in splendid clarity that actually enhances your object due to the contradicting colour of the OOF BG my friend. The bird's colours are just beautiful.
Best regards,
Carl

This one is one of my favorite species Christodoulos...good day. The elegance of his stature is proverbial. As usually great image from one of the greatest cameras to that moment which compliments your technical skills. Great. If I had to demand a bit more from that scene is to see the both legs of the bird nicely exposed. The element of misters is not optimally executed in my opinion....I mean that foreground plant which is out of focus almost blend with the background in every aspect, and that strengthens the false inclusion that the Flamingo's lag has been erased rather than disappears between the vegetation. But hey, Christodoulos it is a wonderful capture other than that.

George Veltchev

Hi Christodoulos

youve got a great subject here. beautifull colors and pose of this bird. I like the out of focus foreground. But it looks a bit hard. Wouldve been nice to soften it a bit more. (i know, almost impossible, but still... Would be nice..)

The flamingo is always a striking bird with lots of attraction to it, and your image once again shows all its beauty to the best. The assortment of pink's in its plumage is lovely and soft on the eye. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
