Ceryle rudis (Linnaeus, 1758). Male
Pied Kingfisher

Ceryle rudis is a black and white Kingfisher in the family Cerylidae.
It is a very distinctive bird 17cm long with black and white plumage and crest. Males have a double band across the breast while females have a single one. It has a very wide distribution across Africa and Asia.

In Cyprus Ceryle rudis is a scarce and irregular passage migrant and winter visitor (Bred in 1996).

Hello Christodoulos,
More lively it can't be. It's if I can touch it, fantastic. Another photo in very high quality.

Very distinctly sharp and well focused image.
Loved your notes too. Short and sweet.

Hello Christodoulos
A superb image in all respect.
It is very difficult to shoot a Pied Kingfisher so closely, but you did it professionally.
Best wishes,

Hello Christodoulo,

Yet another outstanding grid portrait. Perfect!

Here they quite common. You see them quite frequently at the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

All the best,

bonjour Chris, very nice shot, sharpness and harmonious color too, perfect composition, best regards, didier.

Hello Christodoulos,
Brilliant capture of a very interesting and nice species of Kingfisher. Excellent colors, good details and sharpness. I like very much the splendid contrast against the soft background.
Thanks for sharing!

Great detail that you captured plumage, Chris, in this Ceryle rudis ... You've also been lucky, so accounts, power to portray a bird that rarely stops in the beautiful Cyprus.
This kingfisher is entirely black and white as it seems that was the result of a photographic effect achieved digitally, leaving colors backgrownd.
Furthermore tempted me and I've dedicated a workshop playing only grayscale.

A hug.

Hola Christodoulos, hermosa foto del Kingfisher, un acercamiento espectacular lleno de luz y color bien manejados; me gusta la percha, la composición y el fondo...saludos.

Hello Christodoulos

Great close-up shot of this Kingfisher, fine POV and framing,
beautiful light, great focus, sharpness, and details, TFS

Hi Christodoulos,

A very love fisher of the bird kingdom. I always like how the colors contrast on this bird.

Hi Christodoulos,
Some small parts of the white plumage seems overexposed on my laptop, but a beautiful image overall. Composition, sharpness, background and colors are lovely each. Although the small overexposure isn't popping up in Hernan's WS, I prefer the original (colored) version. Pleasant and educative shot, thanks for introducing this rare (at least in Europe) species to the trekkers like me.
Have a nice Christmas, best wishes, László
