On Saturday, it was a very strange day. The scenery was as if we were on Mars! A sandstorm, a huge cloud of dark red sand covered the island of Cyprus (which is common here) with combination of high moisture (+90%), giving an extra-terrestrial sky... especially with a little help of a Graduated Grey ND Retin Filter.

There were some elder people that told me to... stay at home. When I asked what for, they simply laughed with me and said with eachother "he don't know"... Hmmm... the only thing that bothers me is that I didn't find out...

What I have found out, though, was that I had to "wash" all the photo gear I had with me, the bags, the car, my clothes, Lambros (my 4 m/o Labrador)... even my mobile phone! You can't imagine the places and spots where I found sand.
...OK you can ;-)

The sandstorm is gone now, but the local people say it was a ...minor one!!! We should expect a lot bigger and "heavier" ones. What they mean with "heavier" is when you find a blanket of sand at least an inch on your car!!! If this is the case, next time I'm going out with a UW case to protect my camera...

Stunning landsvape. Surreal atmosphere due to the colour of the sky over the trees. I like this alot. Hope the camera gear didn't get damaged. Good work. TFS

Such an atmospheric shot, it looks like the end of the world! The sky is amazing, especially the sun. Well captured Panos.

Superbe landscape Panos. I'm pleased to see your camera wasn't sand-blasted in the storm. Sand is NOT good for a camera. This scene is quite stunning, showing the green of the grape vines and the red sky in the , and especially the SUN. Well done. TFS.
Good notes too.BG.

Without any explanation, your picture succeeds to tell us that something extraordinary gonna happen soon, therefore I found it very exciting and successful. Dynamics of the picture is hidden in the silent panorama very effectively. Congrats Panos.

Great landscape, very nice colours and good POV.
Great work.

Excellent capture and a great note. Very well done. The red sand in the sky really kicks off the greens in the vines. Beautiful photo. I think risking your camera was a great idea!

Well done Panos.

Beautiful and interesting shot ! Colors of the sky are great. Love this Mars ladscape! Excellent note! Thanks for sharing .

Hello Panos,

Great photo and what a moment.

Well done!
Greetings, Jan-Arie

Hello Panos,
Amizing, beautiful photo, looks like an epic greek movie scene. I love this colors, composition and strange sunset; I saw something similar 4 or 5 years ago, but was clouds not a sandstorm.

Fantastic capture Panos, I seen this picture on your pbase site first and kept the idea of the low POV on vines in my head. while in Cyprus I capture a similar shot which I shall upload shortly by I never got the sky I wanted. Anyhow wonderful atmospheric shot. Good work.

What a beautiful picture! A bit eerie-looking, but it's a wonderful capture! Great job!

Wow, this looks amazing! This looks like a photo a person could set a fiction novel 2. Very mystical
