Mantispa sp
Mantis Fly

Mantispa is a genus in the Mantispidae family in the order Neuroptera. It is a small insect (15-18 mm) resembling a mantis but it is more timid and the wings are flimsy. It is active during the day and at night in warm, dry places, especially light woodland with plenty of ground cover. It feeds mainly on small flies. Its larva enters egg cocoons of spiders and feeds on the eggs.

There is no mantispa species reported from Cyprus so far. Any suggestion on the identification of this species will be welcomed.

Hello Christodoulos,
As this is not quite like M. syriaca, I can't give you the right ID! Pity, this deserves a name as the POV, sharpness, natural colours and BG are excellent.
Thanks and best regards,
Ivan

No se si es la misma especie, pero tiene grandes parecidos con Leptomantispa pulchella; ya lo comprobarás.

Técnicamente realizada de manera excelente, con una profundidad sorprendente y una luz y colores estupendos.

Bonsoir Christodoulos,

An amazing creature and a great picture of it. Despite a relatively small aperture, you got a beautifull "Bokeh". Excellent shrapness, perfect exposure and sufficient DOF for the insect itself. Beautifull work and TFS.

Alain

Hy Christodoulos
This time you are presenting something extraordinary, such perfect mimicry on this small insect. I think that this should stay proudly into the gallery of rare contributions to this site!!
