Scilla autumnalis
Scilla autumnalis (Liliaceae) is another Mediterranean early bloomer, popping up immediately after the first rain. Here is an “early bird”, which has just opened its first flowers, starting at the bottom of the inflorescence. Each flower is about 8 mm in diameter; the stalk is no more than 10 cm high. If the bulb receives enough rain, it will grow two or three stalks in a season. In this species, too, the leaves will follow the flowers.
