Philaeus chrysops (Poda 1761). Male

Philaeus chrysops is a species of jumping spider (family Salticidae) with a body length of 5 to 12 mm.
The males have a dark brown cephalothorax with two broad longitudinal white stripes behind the rear eyes. The abdomen is bright orange-red on the back and the sides, with a longitudinal black stripe in the center. The legs are dark with the patellae bright orange-red. The females are very different. The back of the abdomen is largely covered with a very broad brown band with two narrow longitudinal white stripes and a few white marks near the sides. The remainder of the abdomen and the sides are orange.
It has a Palearctic distribution reaching into South China. It prefers open and warm areas.

In Cyprus Philaeus chrysops is a scarce species found sporadically mainly on the mountains.

Hi Christodoulos,
Wow, talk about a great macro of the ultra tiny! What a beautiful jumper. I love the POV, saying "here, this is my best side"! But seriously, this is a wonderful close-up of a striking subject with very good sharpness, rich colours and a very hard to achieve depth of field that takes in the most important stuff. Well done!
