Pernis apivorus (Linnaeus, 1758). Immature
European Honey Buzzard

Pernis apivorus is a bird of prey in the family Accipitridae with a wingspan of 135150-cm.
It breeds in most of Europe and western Asia, wintering in tropical Africa.

It feeds mainly on the larvae of wasps and hornets, although it will take small mammals, reptiles and birds

In Cyprus Pernis apivorus is a common autumn passage migrant. Scarce in spring.

Hello Christodoulos,
What a majestic looking bird. It always seems interesting to me that in some countries their buzzards so closely resemble our hawks here in the US. The buzzard we have here (Turkey Vultures)don't look anything like the buzzards of some countries.
A beautiful image captured in super fine detail and beautiful natural coloration. Great job!!!

Hi Christodoulos.
I saw this bird only in Zoo. You are luckier. Great low POV and shallow DOF. Image of the bird is crisp sharp and isolated form natural BG perfectly. Colours are clean and vivid. Composition is spot on. Bravo.
