I don't know the sub-species. The zoos and animal parks in Iran are not very informative: no proper signs and shields, and the caretakers are mostly undereducated and poor people who know nothing about the animals they care for. Alas!
The people at the zoos and animal parks don't do their jobs out of love, but simply because they found nothing else...

This lion lives in the Pardisan Animal Park in Teheran.

The picture is a little soft, I wrongly focused on the twigs in the foreground... Highly cropped.

Hello, Sam. As you mention on your note, focus is really soft. Besides, there are some branches in front of the face of the lion.
