Biarum bovei
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Family: Araceae
Genus: Biarum
Species: Biarum bovie
Distribution in Israel: The Mediterranean woodlands and shrublands.
Large expanded spathes in deep purple below an elongated and noticeably thin spadix of deep purple-black. The base of the spathe is distinctly bottle-shaped.
One of the most sinister and fascinating of the 'funereal' species. This year we have a good stock, last year the plant sold out quickly.
Like most Biarum this is not quite hardy in the UK but is excellent under glass, where it grows well. |
