One of the most striking Salvias, this one was named by the great Carl Linnaeus himself S indica, although it does not grow in India, but in Western Asia: Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Israel,

The plant can grow to about 150 cm in height. The flowers are about 30 mm high.

The WS shows more of a single plant, and several plants in their habitat of volcanic soil in this case. although the plant is found typically in calcareous soils.
