[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This rare orchid groes in a few localilities in the Upper Galilee and the Golan Heights, northwards to S Turkey. It blooms after all other flowers dry, its own leaves are also dry already. Its always a great excitement to see it again.

Hello Ori,
Fine sharp capture of H. affine, a special and spectacular species of orchid that is new to me.

Hello ORI
Very beautiful Orchis, with colours that I did not know to him.
In France the "Himantoglossum hircinium" is much paler, in these colors.
Cheer and Thank you

Hi Ori, Again a very fantastic plant and very well done photo. Congratulations. TFS. Mustafa

Bonsoir Ori,
C'est une magnifique espèce d'Himantoglossum, avec un labelle sans taches, totalement inconnue en France. J'aime beaucoup les couleurs et le contraste avec l'arrière plan.

Hello Ori,
Marvelous capture of this amazing orchid, thanks Ori.

Preciosa toma de esa curiosa orquídea y elegante orquídea. Buen fondo ya que un color claro iria mal. Saludos Ori.

Shalom Ori,
The technical aspects of this shot are very good, but it is the composition that I find intriguing. At first glance, it seems like the right third of the image is nothing but wasted space. However, I think that is is the long petals trailing off into nothingness that first cought my attention. The longer I look at at, the more I like the composition.
Now, a botanical question. My understanding is that the (strange) shapes of the orchids evolved to accomodate specific insect pollinators, but this one is really extreme. What is the function of the long petal?
TFS, Joel
