[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Ocellated Skink belongs to the SKINKS family.
he is the most common skink in israel!
he's body adjusted to life on and in the ground.
the body is roll and long. the length arrive to 23 cm, half of that is the tail!
the legs are small but solid. he's move looks like snake move (daring move).
on he's skin large number of "eyes"- white scales with black edges. that what let him his latin name:
"Chalcides ocellatus"= "chalkos"-copper, and name of a lizard with copper colour. "ocellatus"- with small eyes.
in israel the Ocellated Skink live all over the country. in the desert there are populations with out of "eyes".
we can found the Ocellated Skink in North Africa and in North-East Africa, in South-West Asia, in the Mediterranean Sea Islands and in Greece.
I found this Ocellated Skink under a rock, when I look after snakes!

Interesting creature. Looks like the evolutionary step between snake and lizard. :)
The Skink is completely in focus but it's hard to get a long skinny fellow in focus from head to toe. It's always nice to see something other than flowers - though flowers are nice.
