This is one of the rare oncocylcus irises. It is endemic to the coastal plain of Israel, growing on sandy soils. It is the first iris to bloomk in spring (there are several winter ones).

Beautiful specie, Ori. I've seen purple and blue and yellow or almost white wild irises, but never a red one.
