[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was taken on a Kodak 4 million pixel digital camera I bought for the office - I was still taking slides at the time. The camera came with a basic PC package - which I have tried to undo to upload.

A wadi (Arabic: وادي wādī) is traditionally a valley. In some cases it can refer to a dry riverbed that contains water only during times of heavy rain. Crossing wide wadis at certain times of the year can be dangerous, because of unexpected flash floods. Such flash floods cause many deaths each year in Saudi Arabia and many other Middle Eastern countries.

Wadi Rum has been inhabited by many human cultures since prehistoric times, with many cultures — including the Nabateans — leaving their mark in the form of rock paintings, graffiti, and temples. As of 2007, several Bedouin tribes inhabit the area.
In the West, Wadi Rum may be best known for its connection with British officer T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia), who based his operations in Wadi Rum during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18.

A natural arch or natural bridge is a natural formation (or landform) where a rock arch forms, with a natural passageway through underneath. Most natural arches form as a narrow ridge, walled by cliffs, become narrower from erosion, with a softer rock stratum under the cliff-forming stratum gradually eroding out until the rock shelters thus formed meet underneath the ridge, thus forming the arch. Natural arches commonly form where cliffs are subject to erosion from the sea, rivers or weathering (sub-aerial processes); the processes "find" weaknesses in rocks and work on them, making them bigger until they break through. Other area where arches are found in numbers are; Arches National Park, Utah, USA and the Acacus Mountains in Libya (picture in my folder).

Another outstanding landscape shot from you and another monument of natural architecture!
The colors here are simply beautiful and the composition that you managed to create here - with the arch on the right and those impressive clifs on the left and in the BG - is outstanding.
The details are great and sahrp and the perspective is superb.
Impressive work with that little camera :)

Delicate details, and the dirt track gives a good scaling!

Jordan has many natural treasures, James, and this one is quite fascinating. It is a giant of an arch and has been very well photographed in relationship with the flat plain and the mountains in the distance.
I have always been impressed with whatever few Wadis I have seen here in Saudi Arabia.

Hi James,
A very good view of the desert at large. I didn't know of this arch in Wadi Rum. Incidentally, some geologists define an arch and a bridge as different formations depending on the kind of erosional force.
